Tonight we funk........

We just tried their new Cooking Masterclass and it was great! Both the Head Chef Andy and Sous Chef Sebastian are great hosts. The class was interactive, the food was excellent, the staff were great and we even got food to take home to make for ourselves. Big thank you to the Bar Soba team for looking after us so well. Our whole party had a great time and would thoroughly recommend the class to everyone.

Was here on the 23/6/17 for a meal with friends, and I must say , staff were so lovely and attentive , couldn't do enough for us and accommodated us throughout our whole visit with selection of drinks and even made up a special mock-tail for one of our friends who is pregnant , everything was perfect from start to finish, highly recommend and will definitely be back 10/10 👍

Visited with a few work colleagues for dinner and drinks last night and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The food was delicious and there was such a variety of cocktails I definitely need to come back and try some more! The staff were so friendly and went above and beyond when there was a delay with our food order. Both head chef Andy and our waitress did everything they could to put it right and gave us a generous discount off the bill. Couldn't fault their service and attitude, they were both great. Will definitely be back soon for another visit.

Saw menu online and called on off chance that there may be a table. The decor was fitting and clean, and there was a very pleasant atmosphere created by a suitably busy bar / restaurant.

A special mention for Jamie at this point-

Jamie was a brilliant host, very warm welcome, and provided excellent recommendations and service throughout our meal.



The food was exquisite-all freshly prepared, (as you'd expect), but the flavours of the dishes really came through, showing the skills of the kitchen brigade. Highly recommend you try, and will be back again.

Always try to fit in a visit when I'm in Edinburgh and as always excellent food. Nasi Goring superb washed down with a Singha and finished off with the Drumstick cocktail�

A quick birthday lunch, excellent food at very reasonable prices. A good variety of meat free foods too. Enjoyed the vegetable dumplings then a Pad Thai noodle with tofu and delicious chips on the side. Good hazelnut and vanilla Manhattan, very strong... too strong for lunch time. Definitely recommend and I will be returning in the evening some time soon.

Was there on sat 28th at 6pm for dinner had a very tasty beef meal and a few drinks service was very slow especially when waiting to pay my friend ended up having to go up to the bar to pay.

Had the boozy brunch yesterday with 4 friends. Food was lovely as were the waiting staff however there was not enough staff on to cope with the numbers of customers which resulted in slow service. We were in before during August and a similar experience.

We really felt sorry for the staff as you could see they were doing the best they could. It possibly may be an idea to include cocktails that can be made in bulk to speed up service or dare I say it jugs of cocktails.

I forgot to take the name of the waitress but she was wearing a green blouse and she was fabulous. I will be back but it just needs a few tweaks.

The overselling of the cocktails in the city certainly wouldn't have helped which was not the fault of the restaurant.

Visited Bar Soba on Monday evening for drinks. Two guys behind the bar were friendly, engaging and attentive. Enjoyed it and therefore booked for dinner on Tuesday evening. Wish we hadn’t bothered. We had a table for two people booked for 20:00, and arrived at 19:50. Female waitress came behind the bar and asked us what drinks we wanted, which we ordered. At the same time we advised we had a table booked for 20:00. At 20:10 we still hadn’t been seated, nor did we have any drinks. Poor show... especially as we’d pre-booked for a specific time. Will not return and will not recommend to others.

Having eaten at bar soba and used their takeaway service a number of times I was really disappointed with my takeaway tonight...I ordered chicken and prawn phad Thai. There was not a single prawn amongst the noodles which were all stuck together with a few burnt vegetables and bits of chicken. Such a shame as food has been good before but unlikely to order from here again

Went here for a date and left with food poisoning! Service was slow and poor. I contacted then again to inform them that i got poorly from the food and got numerous promises for a phone call from a chef/manager etc and now about 4/5 months later heard nothing from them. Very disappointing and will definitely not be returning.

We booked a table for 2pm for the boozy brunch but table was not ready as we had emailed to add one extra person on but they never got this. Finally got seated at half 2! Waited 15 minutes to put a drinks order in & another 20 before they arrived. Hour in total for sharing platter to come out (food was nice) in which we ordered second round of drinks. Another 30 odd minutes for this to arrive. Mains finally came out nearly 2 hours after our original reservation time. Food was very tasty but we where all very agitated & frankly pissed off with all the waiting that we asked not to bother with last 2 drinks. The young waitress was very nice & apologetic & indeed not her fault. We did get money off our bill which was fair enough. Such a massive disappointment as this could have potentially been a really good afternoon.

Our table was booked for 3pm and when we went down at 245pm we were met by a young female who advised us our table was not ready so told us to go upstairs and she will come for us when it is ready, so we went back up stairs to the bar and had a drink. 310pm still waiting on the waitress coming for us so we decided that we had finished our drinks that we would just go back down, when getting back down there were 5 empty tables however none of these had been cleared... we finally got seated at 320. We had already decided on drinks so we ordered these as soon as we sat down... now just to remind everyone, you get 4 drinks, a sharing platter and a main meal and 2 hours on your table!! Our first drink was 4 glasses of Procesco and a glass of water.. not so hard and we ordered 2nd round at the same time, it took us 30 mins to get 4 procesco drinks no sight of the other 4 or the glass of water so we decided as it took so long we gave the waitress our full drinks order!

Our second round of drinks included a classic Mojito, an apple and ginger Mojito, glass of procesco and a French martini. The Mojitos arrived at 415 but nothing else, and to be honest these were the most disgusting mojitos we have ever tasted, it was just like a shot of rum and water with some mint leaves!

Our meal was lovely however after waiting and chatting to other tables around us who also were doing the boozy brunch to find out 2 ladies had sat down at 1pm and were still waiting for their fourth drink at 430pm we decided to cancel the remaining drinks and pay the bill and leave.

If Bar Soba can’t accommodate for 4 drinks per person don’t advertise this boozy brunch on major events such as Edinburgh cocktail weekend brochure. They also should think about employing a glass washer as it’s not a good look having bar full of dirty glasses.

Thought we’d try this bar tonight. Stood at the none too busy bar for at least 10 mins without being served. Needless to say we didn’t stay - shocking service. Won’t be back.

Ordered a katsu curry using their takeaway service tonight, and the quality was less than what I was expecting. The portion of rice served was small, almost a kids portion in size, and was boiled rice and not the expected jasmine rice. The curry itself was mediocre. This was a shame, as I had ordered from them using their delivery service in the past and ate at the restaurant, those times the food was of high quality.

Love the food but awful bar service. I ordered an espresso martini but their coffee machine was broken so I went for a French. It was all pineapple juice and so sweet. I mentioned that I really didn’t like it as it was too sweet and asked if I could swap. They said no, that it was described in the info and if I didn’t like it then tough. Really bad customer service for someone who loves a cocktail and would happily spend a lot of money in a good place. The staff were really blunt and unaccommodating. So disappointed as the tunes were great and I would have happily stayed here all night if the service wasn’t so bad!

I visited here last night with 9 other work colleagues and ordered the Burger and Thai Fries on menu. When it arrived I sliced into burger to find it was undercooked and pink all the way through. I politely asked the waitress (who was very nice) if the burger could be cooked for longer as I could not eat undercooked meat. She agreed. Next arrives a male waiter who asks what the problem was - again I explained I cannot cook undercooked meat and simply wished for burger to be cooked for longer so it was brown inside and not pink. Within a few minutes I was shocked (appalled is probably a better description) for your chef to leave his kitchen and come to our table to proceed to ask abruptly what exactly the problem was with the burger. I again explained and your chef then proceeded to raise his voice and tell me that the burger was cooked how it should be and that he refused to cook it anymore as he wasn't serving a burnt burger. I reminded your chef that my preference as to how to eat my burger that I am paying for is my concern and not his. Your chef became aggressive and attracted unwanted attention from others diners as he told me how he had done this job for 15 years and knew better than me that burgers could be eaten pink. Perhaps your chef should do a refresher course from food standards agency - as I reminded him a burger is not like a steak and you should not eat a burger that is not cooked through. At points when your chef became argumentative he was interrupted by other members of my party and he proceeded to treat them in same manner as me. It ended with the chef telling me he was refusing to cook burger as I wished so I should choose something else from menu - which I refused and simply asked for the fries instead. He continued to protest about the burger however I turned my back on him as he was ruining our night. When we got the bill the young girl who originally served us apologised for your chefs behaviour and stated he gets very protective over his food. It was nice she had good manners but she shouldn't be apologising for him. I certainly will not be back nor will any of my 9 friends. Disgraceful behaviour.
