Thanks!

Swimming Pool update!! 🏊‍♂️🏊‍♀️
We have been working on upgrading the changing area which has had new toilets, sinks, lights, ceiling, floors, benches and lockers this year so far!
Next up is a revamp of the shower area and the pool surround with better drainage, fixing the low spots and a nonslip surface so we don’t need the yellow mats and also new roof glass.
... We’re also getting quotes for dehumidifiers and heaters so the air temperature is nice and toasty as we go into winter to ensure we don’t have any condensation issues.
Obviously this amount of work will cause some disruption to the availability of the pool but we will endeavour to minimise this.
On completion we hope to have a really nice facility that we can all enjoy!

What an absolutely amazing place to stay! In the middle of loads of things for the kids, food and drink great in the bar/resturant and fantastic service all staff were kind and in addition we had visits from Badgers & a lost bat 🦇 can not recommend this wonderful place enough. And the kids just loved especially the pool 🏊

Thank you Barend for a special relaxing holiday.

User

We have just left today after a fantastic week. Lodge was brilliant with everything you need. Superb view from lodge of the loch. Our boys loved watching the swans and ducks from the balcony. We enjoyed using the pool and had a delicious meal from bar end restaurant. All in all a brilliant holiday and will definately return.

User

This place is great! Very comfortable accommodation plenty of room in our chalet for 4 adults, 2 kids and 2 dogs. We stayed here for new year and checked in to find a bottle of wine and selection boxes for the kids which was lovely and welcoming. It is a great base for exploring the surrounding area but to be fair we didn't go much further than the lovely beach which is just a 5 minute walk away. Both kids and dogs loved it. Can't wait till our next visit

User

Stunning, in beautiful surroundings. On site pub, great food, atmosphere and lovely staff. Very relaxing stay, booked a week, next time 2 weeks. Would highly recommend.

User

Just spent a weekend here in lodge 8. It as a fantastic wee change of scenery that we all enjoyed. Lodge was amazing & so comfortable & allowed us to have quality family time with our 3 kids aged 12-16 away from their gadgets, the dog also enjoyed it. Staff very friendly with a lovely wee swimming pool & pub/restaurant.

User

Just back home from a four night stay. The area is beautiful, the lodges are clean and comfortable and the facilities are great too. Kids loved the pool and the food in the restaurant was delicious. Would definitely recommend and hope to come back for another stay.

User

Just back from lodge 58. It was first class. There was 8 adults and 1 dog. We had a fantastic time. So relaxing and quiet. Short walk to the beach. Pub on site serves lovely food. Didn't have time to use the pool but it looks good. The lodge was very spacious compared to a lot of others we have been to. Would highly recommend, definitely going back.

User

Highly recommend. My husband and his cycle friends have been staying here for over 5 years, this is the first time we have been as a couple with friends and I was a bit apprehensive but from arriving at the entrance I was impressed. The lodge was big, warm and clean with everything you would need. I even surprised my husband by using the pool which was very clean and the water was lovely and warm. The bar and restaurant hosts a great menu and we are there 3 put of the 4 nights. We would also recommend the 4x4 tour around the Deer Park which is at the end of the road, our hour tour lasted 1.1/2 hours and was one of the most interesting trips we have been on for a while. There are some great walks just a stones throw / car ride from the park and would recommend going to the Island from Kipford across the coarse way and dont let the rain put you off as it's a great walk

User

Had a lovely week staying in the Cottage at Barend. Has to be the shortest walk ever to get a good meal and a drink . Love the beach with some stunning views from many areas of the site over the bay and Barend Loch. Currently there are a pair of Swans with 5 Cygnets on the Loch. On an evening walk around the site we saw five Badgers quietly foraging for food amongst the chalets.

User

Had a fantastic stay, very relaxing in pleasant surroundings . Wonderful view from our superbly equipped lodge which was clean and spacious. Modern without losing character. The park was lovely and staff charming and helpful. We enjoyed the pool and eating at the restaurant. Definitely be back. Stayed at lodge 3 for one week. Family of four and our two dogs.

User

First class, the bar and restaurant on site are very good.

User

Fantastic warm cosy log cabins all with a beautiful view of a loch down below. The indoor heated pool and sauna were open all day even on Christmas Day! The staff are super attentive should you have a problem, and we will be back again for our third visit. Sandyhills beach is really short walk away, and our dog loves it as much as we and the kids do!

User

Been here loads of times. Lovely place to stay to tour Dumphries and Galloway. 1st time in lodge 58. Newly refurbished to very high standard. Cannot fault anything about Barends

User

Beautiful views, ideal lodge for family holiday. We loved the pool and the wildlife. Thanks so much!

User

Amazing week just spent here, the village is fantastic and surrounding area just stunning! Sarah and Duncan were the perfect hosts, can’t wait to return! Xx

User

Amazing little holiday village, 4th time we have returned with different groups of family and friends, this is probably the only place we would consider buying a property!! Love it! X

User

Absolutely brilliant stay once again at Barend, staying in one of the three Thistle Lodges. The bar/restaurant is great, the pool is great and my Labradors love the beach. If you like a relaxing break in a lovely area steeped in history then look no further. Frankly some of the poor reviews I've read below are a complete joke, everyone is entitled to their opinion but I've yet to see a poor review that the site owners could help themselves and wasn't caused by a third party. We will definitely be back again and again.

User

Absolutely beautiful place to stay and so friendly we loved it and will definitely be back again. The food was amazing and the staff are so helpful and the dear park next door is well worth a visit to see wild dear in their natural environment is so beautiful thank you all so much for a brilliant holiday

User

Just back from a weeks stay in Lodge 71, which is up for sale but tbh needs a bit of updating/refurb.

The weather was glorious but due to the dated windows, couldn't keep a window open during the night, so lodge was like a sauna

The bar was superb and great to have a place dog friendly so we could have something to eat and on the 3 occasions we visited, the food was superb, my husband had the steak pie 3 times only because he said he wouldn't be able to finish the fish as it was huge, I went for the sizzling chicken twice and a burger on 3rd visit and thoroughly enjoyed all of it, so stuffed never got a chance to order desserts

We only visited pool once and was a bit disappointed in the changing facilities as there was only a curtain which my daughter informed me you could see through or a small toilet, so think that could be improved by having a couple of cubicles fitted

I found the gradients of the roads a bit hard as I suffer from arthritis and was unaware of the climb to and from our parking spot to the door and up to the facilities, but just had to manage but would put me off returning although I did thoroughly enjoy feeding the badgers every night, we also had an array of birds, squirrels, rabbits and even deer (early one morning) which we enjoyed so overall a great holiday and if you don't mind a climb a lovely holiday village
