Barra Bunting - Be A Part Of It Description

Have you set foot on Barra and /or Vatersay? If so then you too could create a flag and become part of it.

We would like people to make one bunting flag of their own design. The only qualification needed for making a flag is that you must have set foot on Barra and /or Vatersay.

All flags created will be sewn together and a large amount of bunting created that can be used at events throughout Barra and Vatersay.
The Project will also create an archive of all the flags. For this archive we would like to know a little about yourself and your flag. We would like you to send the following information to accompany your flag: - Name, Year of birth, Where you live, Your relationship with Barra and /or Vatersay, What your flag represents and a picture of yourself.

This is not a one-off project. It will go on year after year with new people creating flags and them being added to the original bunting.

What should I put on my flag?
Your flag design can be anything you like. It could simply be a piece of material you like or a piece of material that means something to you. You could use more than one piece of fabric to create a collage or patchwork effect. You could decorate your flag with embellishments such as buttons, embroidery, ribbon etc… Just let your imagination go and see what you can come up with.

I need help. . .
There will be a number of bunting workshops throughout the year to help you with your flag. Perhaps you have a great idea but are not sure where to start or you would just like a bit of guidance, if so, then just drop in. At each workshop there will be fabric and access to a sewing machine so you can make your whole flag there and then.
Workshop dates will be advertised and on the website www. barrabunting.net.

A wonderful Bee from Duncan Lawie of Folkestone he visited in June this year on a quest for the Great Yellow Bumblebee. He had great fun getting creative and making his flag.

Beautifully embroidered flag from Margaret Bowie from Hamilton. She spent her first holiday on Barra this year and had a lovely time. Margaret likes spending time in her garden so she embroidered this lovely flower motif. She "chose a blue background to reflect the fabulous blue skies of our holiday"

Putting together and string for Vatersay Community Café to display. It would be nice to have one or two more to add to it. Are there any nearly finished buntings out there that could be sent in to join on?

A beautiful flag arrived today from Pilar Fernandez from Galica in Spain. Her flag represents travellers from all over the world living unique experiences showing solidarity between our countries connected to each other by the wisdom of the sea. It is wonderful.
