About Bathgate Regal Film Society

The Bathgate Regal Film Society (est. 1999) shows a film on the first Wednesday of every month of our season for just £4 on our huge cinema screen.

Bathgate Regal Film Society Description

The Bathgate Regal Film Society was formed in 1999, by which point large and, predominantly, charmless multiplexes had killed off local picturehouses. The Regal, itself a cinema for 55 years, was the perfect venue to bring film back to the heart of West Lothian.

In our early years we used the existing, smaller cinema that still remained in the building (it has since been refurbished into the bar), showing mainly classics on 16mm film. DVD and, later, Blu-Ray allowed us to improve our picture and sound, as well as greatly widen the range of movies available to us.

We now show in the theatre’s main hall on a 20 + feet screen which we were able to get funding for in 2011, and which allows to provide a truly cinematic experience. We are proud to show a broad range of films, from modern dramas and comedies to foreign-language films and classics from film history.
