Bay Tarbet Hotel

First off I should point out the building is covered in scaffolding as I write this and is due to soon close for 6 weeks to allow for refurbishment. The reception and bar area are more than acceptable as they are, the restaurant is a bit dated as are the bedrooms but then again you know this before booking. For the price (if you are on a Shearings trip) you could not fault it.

The staff are genuinely friendly and attentive. The food is good and the bar is well stocked, although I wish there was heavy on tap instead of John Smith's. I don't mind the fact that Wi-Fi is a bit slow and only available near the bar and reception. No mobile coverage feels almost like a plus on holiday and I haven't even plugged the tv in the bedroom in so the lack of channels doesn't worry me either. The entertainment in the bar of an evening might not be to everyone's tastes but you can withdraw to the comfy chairs and sofas in the lounge with a paper.

The scenery and the warmth of staff and locals make up for any shortcomings with the building and let's face it. Most of the day you will be out enjoying the surroundings and not stuck in the hotel.

I would happily recommend it to anyone.

It's an old hotel that is currently having the exterior renovated. There were many of the trappings of staying in an old building, with elements looking a bit tired. Nonetheless, the location is fantastic, the staff are very helpful and friendly and the beds soft and warm.

Pleasant staff and enjoyable meal. Decor tired in the bedrooms. Typical old fashioned Scottish Hotel, ideal for a stop over but not for a longer say...

Friendly staff and food was lovely, rooms not luxurious but adequate for couple of nights apart from room 101 which is situated next to what I believe may be the boiler as the humming was pretty disturbing late at night (hence one less star) apart from that..I'd go back again..👍

We have stayed at the Tarbet a number of times over the years and have always found it welcoming&friendly. Yes, it is an old building,but that's the character of it. There is bound to be creaky floorboards, looking at some of the reviews, I think some are being unfair.
We have always found the Staff very efficient and friendly. The breakfast has plenty of choice for everyone, &the evening meals are on the whole abit inconsistent, but nevertheless, tasty with lots to choose from.
We will be returning to the Tarbet again. We like it&the location is stunning. 👍

We where only stopping at the hotel for a quick drink, to break up a long drive. Very clean hotel, and friendly staff. Would definitely stop on the way back again.

Beautiful building and setting, across the road from the Loch. Friendly, fast staff, comfy rooms. A little old fashioned, entertainment is a bit amateur, but overall a pleasing stay.

Terrible hotel! Looks nice from the outside but inside it smells bad has squeaky floors throughout. The bedroom was dirty and had mould on the window curtains and the room was very dated and tired.

Hotel attraction is it has a red carpet on the walls inside the lift! Very nice back in the 60's I am sure but it really is time it got renovated for the prices they charge!

It was like going back in time, the TV in our room was an old box type with awful reception from aerial, the wall paper was peeling off the walls and there was a big hole in the wall of the bedroom.

Not a good example to set for tourists coming to Scotland for the first time.

Great hotel and great meals and staff brilliant

Quiet hotel excellent for exploring the area but transport needed.

Nice place. Nothing else nice.

Great decor, huge rooms, great view and right next to Loch Lomond
