me and my blind friend love this venue for our fix of tribute bands. nice friendly staff and great music makes it a must place for fun night out :)

User

great venue.been a few times.great bands.does anyone know.can my son get in he is 16

User

Sensible drink prices, not over crowded even when gig sold out. Well ventilated and decent toilets. An absolute gem, great atmosphere this is how it's done.

User

Ok it's not neon lights, glitter balls,or flashy and it does look studenty but,and it's a big but. it's a great wee venue that has had loads of up and coming bands play there in the past ,Franz Ferdinand for example and has brilliant tribute acts that play regularly. For about a tenner or sometimes just a wee bit more (depends on the band) for entry and inexpensive drinks prices this place is just a wee Dundee gem and needs your support !! so just go, you'll come out with a smile !!

Hubby and I came from Ayrshire to see the Filthy Tongues here on Friday night. Brilliant venue! Fantastic bar prices, great sound and atmosphere. Made to feel right at home by the owner John, who took time to chat and make us feel very welcome even though he was extremely busy doing the jobs of ten men and a wee fella. Will definitely have a look to see what's happening here if we're ever back in Dundee!

User

Great wee venue 🤘🏽

Only seen tribute bands here, but not seen a bad one yet. A bit low on staff would be my only criticism, that apart, the place has always ticked all the boxes.

User

Came from Newcastle for Bowie band on Saturday night, gigs sold out, venue was great, busy but not oversold, well done guys will be returning on our nxt visit.

User

Been a couple of times now and John and Pammie have been very friendly and always willing to provide a thirsty bunch of patrons. Can get extremely warm especially when rocking out to music when busy but that's to be expected. Nice touch with the decor only slight criticism is size of toilets when busy but most people won't be affected by that I'll definitely be back for more.

User

As others have said, it's not swanky and it gets a tad warm, but it's an excellent small gig venue, great range of tribute acts or up and coming bands/artists. Decent range of beers, not just Tennants and Miller and doesn't overcharge for them.

User

great venue been there now a few times will be back for sure yes it could to with air-con but you forget about it when you enjoy yourself

User

Went to see Hayseed Dixie. Last week the clocks went back an hour - going into here they went further - the clocks went back to 1977!

The decor is simple and lack of air con makes for a hot and sweaty environment (sometimes you miss the smell of nicotine!) but somehow it all just added to the sense of occasion - and helped make the night.

Would hate to visit on a hot night in the summer though....

Drinks inexpensive.

User

We had a really good night and the t-rex tribute band tht were on were really good, would be better if it was a slightly bigger venue with more seats but we had a goodnight

User

Bar staff great prices fine space good but heat was unbearable u need air conditioning would def stop me going back and several flights of stairs not great for women in heels !

User

Place needs ventilation. Last time i was there i felt sick within 20 minutes and had to leave. Good place if there's not many people. Soon as there are a fair number of people in the room it heats up and get sweaty quick.

User

shit venue, advertising poor, tickets were £12 when stated £10, if it wasn`t for the timing of 1 punter who gave me a pound, i would have head to go home as the woman at the door wasn`t going to let me in with £11.30

User

The heat/drink situation needs sorted. John gets some really great acts through Dundee and sometimes these gigs are great to attend. If he took constructive criticism the venue could be improved to be one of the better venues in Dundee.

Man the heat is turned up so high to force you to buy drinks but the heat has also evaporated the alcohol from the drink!? The best part is when you go outside and decide which pub you want to go to next.

I've just been told about how this place deals with criticism and bad reviews, and while I've never been so can't comment directly (I'm always happy to be proved wrong)I'm under the same view as the people above, that while a review is something that potential customers will read and thus make a decision on whether the go to a venue or purchase your products. It should also be used to evaluate and improve those same services that you intend to provide. Blocking and banning a critic will only serve to cast more suspicion about the quality of service you provide, as from a third parties eye view it looks like you're trying to hide something and that in the long run will have far more damaging consequences to your chosen business model.

By dealing with a poor review in a professional manner and actually addressing the concerns brought up by the initial complaint It becomes entirely possible to turn that negative into a much larger positive for both parties involved.

Beat Generator have banned a good friend of mine, purely for writing an honest review. Now this person has not only been a customer of this establishment for many years. They have also assisted with the selling of gig tickets. So for being a loyal customer and helping with business... This is the thanks she gets?! Beat Generator instead should have handle this with a professional manner. Addressed the situation of what her review was about, and thanked her for her loyal service and hoped she continued coming back! I sure will not be returning to this place as many of her friends won't be either. For this unfair treatment she has received, when she has done nothing to deserve to be banned.
