The best pub we visited in Edinburgh, great selection of beers, the doormen were true gentleman and when the tables moved we had a dancefloor that was packed all night, great viewing for the champion league cup final ��

Spent time in here on Friday,Saturday and out the back on Sunday during the Rolling Stones weekend cracking atmosphere nice food and friendly bar staff well done we’ll be back

Really fantastic food, lovely pub with nice atmosphere, ladies toilets could do with some attention, they were dirty and not very welcoming, such a shame as a really great pub and place to eat !

Love this place. Born and bred in Edinburgh. Took friends here for drinks before Festival Fun. It's great venue for live bands. Steeped in history and just a good ol funky boozer. Don't expect frills but do expect a fabulous atmosphere in the heart of the old town.

Came in on Saturday night (22nd July) and the place was bouncing! Good music which doesn't normally get played and excellent bar staff. The crowd were having a great time and some great shapes were being pulled on the dance floor! Will be back again! ��

arrived yesterday 24th Aug to a very busy Grassmarket so no seats outside available but noticed there was a garden area at the rear so we sat there with our wine etc....the sun was out so it was lovely to sit and relax and take in the atmosphere, although out front would have been better! nice service although when hinted would be helpful to have our order brought to our table, (bottle of wine in ice box and a soft drink) as there were a few stairs to climb, and being senior citizens, but was not taken up the staff member who served us...

They've bee-n 'round a few hundred years so they won't be getting worse and they won't be getting much better soon. Thank goodness they're not at all bad. Longevity in a bar brings with it a bit of heckling, a bit of give and take. I was entertained by a place that didn't care if I came or went they were going to be serving customers till closing and

Great place for a pint

Great night as ever due to the DJ and good service at the bar. Shame the door staff don't care about the streets of Edinburgh. One flicked his lit cigarette out the door on to the street and just walked away....the other door staff, when challenged, didn't care and basically laughed that I cared about it......

Far, far too-busy to really enjoy yourself in here. Being busy (and thunderously over-priced) might mean they have decent fair.

At first when we arrived we were told we could sit at a table, then after 20 minutes we realized you had to order at the bar and give them your table number. None of the waiters told us. We had to wipe our own table. I'm giving this 4. Stars because the fish and chips were awesome and the atmosphere was nice. The grass market area is fabulous.

Was a great little spot, good atmosphere and an enormous garden area. Seriously need to have more staff on, too long a wait at the bar and tables just not cleared with what looked liked hours and hours of drinking glasses left on the table.

Need some real big screen TVs in the beer garden for football. Outside bar was closed on Saturday night during the World Cup game. WTF?

Quite disappointed. In for dinner with my wife and 17 ur old son. Ordered dinner and drinks. Bar member challenged my son's age. Openly told him he was 17. Was told against the law to be drinking alcohol. So polity told it's not as long as there is a responsible adult and eating food. The bar staff repeatedly said it was still against the law. Maybe your staff should have a refresher course on there licencing laws

Possibly the most surly, mean-spirited customer service I've ever had. No manners or eye contact from the server (eyebrows). A young bar staff turgid with imperious attitude and contempt. Worse than the worst style bar ever was! Avoid!

One star for the steak ... that sat under heat lamps while entree was cooked, served to us and eaten. Two groups of 6 people who arrived after we ordered and paid got their food before we asked where ours was. Staff apologised that our mains were cooked and our entree wasn't. Needless to say the salad on the mains was inedible by the time we got it.

And not so much as even a fan on inside to move the stuffy warm air around.

My husband, myself, our son and girlfriend along with two other couples had the misfortune to call into the Beehive to celebrate them all completing the Edinburgh marathon.

Our evening started off with us all enjoying the nice atmosphere of this busy pub. We carried on spending our hard earned money right up until we were served our last round of drinks at 12.12am. Suddenly everything changed and we were bellowed at by the door staff that we had to get out as they shut at 12.15 ! When I calmly explained that we had only just bought our drinks and would need 5 more minutes I was shouted at by a member of the bar staff to get out as it's the law. As our drinks were being taken off the table in front of us I was once again screamed at by door staff to leave now !

I fully understand that pubs have a closing time and had it been calmly explained to us that the pub was about to shut then my group and I would have happily drunk up and left the premises. The behaviour of the staff was shocking, rude, intimidating and disrespectful and I would advise drinkers to avoid The Beehive at all costs !!!!!

Have 1 star and that is generous,my group of 5 started in beer garden and then moved inside to eat,slow service we ordered food and after 45 minutes approached bar staff to ask when it would arrive,"there was a mistake with the order was the answer" and after 10 minutes frustration set in and money was refunded,unfortunately my group were scandanavian restauranteurs and well known food bloggers....it was a terrible experience for us all and if this is what service is to be expected in Edinburgh particularly at this time then it as at the least a poor show...there will be more to follow I'm sure and I'm sure with blogs and non recommendations to follow the ratings will drop dramatically...very dissapointing

Edinburgh is a beautiful city, and the people are very friendly.



The striking exception was the Beehive in Grassmarket. Having been involved in hospitality in tourism for over 2 decades, and extremely well travelled in many countries and cultures, today stood out as the rudest experience I have ever had in a restaurant/pub or similar.



Travelling with my partner and her parents, we went into the Beehive in for a drink, with a view to having lunch. We ordered drinks at the bar and took them outside. After sitting having a drink and reviewing the menu, it started to rain - so we went to move inside with our drinks. On the table we were sitting at, there were menus (already there) and a basket with condiments. I grabbed these avoid them getting rained on and to let staff inside know that the rest were about to get soaked.



Once inside, before I had even reached the table (a short distance) I was verbally abused by a staff member for moving condiments & menus off the outside table. The manner in which he spoke to me would be unacceptable from a security guard, let alone a hospitality worker - barking at me that nothing is to be removed from outside. I politely responded that it was starting to rain, and everything was about to get wet - which was met with another salvo from him that we have a system, and not to interfere. This statement was coupled with a tone and demeanor which was frankly fighting talk.



A few minutes later it clearly dawned on him that everything outside was about to get soaked, and he was seen collecting everything off the tables.



No apology afterwards for his appalling and incredibly rude & aggressive behaviour.



Staff member was redheaded with a greying beard/goatee. This business should consider encouraging him to another line of work entirely - perhaps a prison guard.
