Bellahouston Aikido Description

Aikido is a dynamic, exciting Japanese martial art that uses throws and holds based on techniques developed by Samurai warriors. Far from the cut throat world of feudal Japan though, Aikido is a peaceful form of self-defence that teaches you to blend with an attacker and use their momentum and weight against them so you can neutralise their attack without causing unnecessary damage. In fact, it's not uncommon to see our smallest women putting the biggest guys firmly into the mat with hardly any effort and without a second thought!

The schools in Scotland are back and the English ones won’t be long! The roads are busier in the morning, supermarkets chaotic at the weekend... for some of us, holidays in the sun are a distant memory! For others, nothing changes and we just keep running that rat race...
Our Aikido classes continued over the summer despite the changes in routine for a lot of us. Providing us with the lessons that encourage us to open and extend our minds, reflect and project, working hard bu...t at the same time enjoying that personal journey.
No matter where you are right now, take a moment and appreciate yourself.

Is school out for the summer? Aikido Gi Yu Gin classes are continuing as normal so we wouldn’t know 😆
At a time when many groups and classes close because the schools are on holiday, Aikido Gi Yu Gin will continue to be open for old and new students alike!

Would you believe that the young chap in the photo below celebrates his 60th birthday today? No we can hardly believe it either! He has barely aged a day (except with the addition of some silver lining 😆)

50 years ago yesterday O-Sensei sadly passed away. We cannot begin to write a post that would do him justice because his contribution to martial arts, individual lives and the world itself is too immense. He developed a beautiful and powerful practice of self defence that teaches harmony with yourself and those around you - enemies or not!
I particularly like the picture of O-Sensei below not just because of the joy evident in his face but because he looks as though he is doi...ng the ki rowing exercise (funakogi undo) which our Sensei often asks us to practice.
This weekend, in O-Sensei’s memory, we could practice our favourite ki exercise at home, extending our peace and harmony into a world that really needs it! ❤️
