About Better Me

At BetterMe we help you become the best version of yourself – to flourish. We work with individuals, organisations, children and young people, helping to build the essential core strengths of confidence, resilience, self-esteem and emotional intelligence

Better Me Description

BetterMe is a social enterprise, or officially, a Community Interest Company (CIC) based in Scotland. A CIC is a business with primarily social objectives whose surpluses are principally reinvested for that purpose in the business or in the community, rather than being driven by the need to maximise profit for shareholders and owners. CICs tackle a wide range of social and environmental issues and operate in all parts of the economy.

By using business solutions to achieve public good, it is believed that CICs have a distinct and valuable role to play in helping create a strong, sustainable, and socially inclusive economy.

BetterMe offer services to all and reinvests the money we make back into our business to aid groups that would otherwise be unable to access them. This allows us to help tackle social issues, improve people’s life chances, and support communities. When a social enterprise profits, local, national, and international society profits.

Imposter syndrome affects millions of people. It appears to be more prevalent in women. The BetterMe approach can help you overcome imposter syndrome.
"NICOLA Sturgeon, First Minister of Scotland, admitted that she suffers from imposter syndrome and how politics can leave her feeling vulnerable.
In a revealing interview for Sunny Govan Radio, the First Minister discussed being a woman in the senior political arena, confessed that she is her own worst critic, and opened up on... how her marriage to Peter Murrell has surprised her.
Host Anne Hughes began by asking Sturgeon if she ever felt like an imposter. “Like many women in senior positions, yes I absolutely do,” said Sturgeon. “However, I think it gives women a bit of humility too and reminds you that you have to work hard for what you need to achieve.
“It keeps you grounded. Do I deserve this? Could I do better? It makes you more accountable for your own work.”
The First Minister added that it is often more difficult for women in politics to adopt an approach which isn’t criticised: “It’s a double whammy!” she said.
“You get criticised for not really being a woman and then get criticised for being weak if you adopt a feminine style. When it comes down to it, you just have to find your own style of delivery that works for you.” - Full story in The National

Research in the USA linked physical and mental wellbeing with quality of life in older people - you might think that is obvious. You can change your mental and physical wellbeing. Cognitive function was significantly associated with physical mobility, wisdom and satisfaction with life. Physical health was associated with mental well-being, resilience and younger age. Mental health was linked to optimism, self-compassion, income and lower levels of loneliness and sleep disturbances.

... Meantime, when politicians argue about the upcoming Finnish general election, young people work together and show how they can work with each other for the benefit of the their community.
The Award-winning Gutsy Go project has trained a thousand young people to work together for the benefit of their community in various parts of Finland. This week there will be 13 new Gutsy Go projects in Espoo, involving all of the 14 year olds from schools in Espoo. We often hear about rehab and remedies after something happening which affects our wellbeing.
The BetterMe approach is all about prehab! Take control of your wellbeing with our programmes.
New research featured in Scientific American suggests mental illnesses are so common that almost everyone will develop at least one diagnosable mental disorder at some point in their life. Most of these people will never receive treatment, and their relationships, job performance and life ...satisfaction will likely suffer. Meanwhile the few individuals who never seem to develop a disorder may offer psychology a new avenue of study, allowing researchers to ask what it takes to be abnormally, enduringly mentally well. https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/…/ mental-illness-is-f…/
