For our customers who are not a million miles away from Biggar and often come through for a visit to the shop, and whilst in town possibly take advantage of any of the deli, coffee shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants to treat themselves to lunch, coffee and cake.
Sadly none of them can offer a sit-in service for obvious reasons BUT they seem to have quickly prepared some takeaway and/or delivery options. I can personally vouch for The Olive Tree’s quiches and cake 😋 - heading over there now for a lunch treat - fingers crossed 🤞🏻.
Happy weekend, X

We said in a recent post that we’ve introduced many many folk to quilting. Well, the lovely Deborah from The Lint Mill came to an evening class we ran a couple of years ago.
If you need some cheering up, first have a look at her post below - her lap quilt in the light of the rising sun, and then scroll through The Lint Mill’s FB pages, specifically their photos. It’s an organic small holding and B&B just a few miles away from Biggar - I defy anyone not to love their goats, dogs, pigs and sheep. Perhaps start following them because I guarantee more adorable spring like photos will get posted.
Keep smiling, X

For any of our followers who were planning on attending the Grosvenor quilt shows in Exeter next month and/or Malvern in May, they have both been rescheduled. Please read Grosvenor’s post with the revised dates. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 that we’ll see you in Malvern in July 🙏.
Meanwhile stay at home and do lots of quilting and patchworking - those UFOs/WIPs and new projects will now be known as your Corona projects.
Keep safe, X

Here's an excellent (IMHO) and very apt idea what to make with those Liberty Fabrics - check out this quilt pattern writer's website. We absolutely love the quirkiness of this particular subject matter and how on earth did Karen predict the global phenomena of toilet paper 😬 when she wrote this pattern whenever ago.
Every bathroom and WC needs a bit of posh Liberty Fabric in it - yes, that's definitely what I'd do with the 4 x fat quarters (or Moda fabric from us here at... Biggar Stitches 😉). I'm clearly obsessed with loo roll at the present time and I'm very VERY relieved that the loo rolls on the pattern are coming off the correct way (a big fat YES, there is only ONE way - the CORRECT way by which loo roll should come off the roll - demonstrated perfectly in the pattern) 😆😅😂🤣
The link below is for the e-pattern (not the printed version) - help somebody out in what will soon be a struggling quilting industry - at today's exchange rate it's just less than £10.

Ooooh, different shades of blue than what we have in the shop.
We can vouch for our friend Helen looking after you if you were to treat yourself to some Liberty fabrics which we don’t sell. Hmmmm, what can one make with one of these sets of 4 x fat quarters? For me personally, I think a matching laptop and iPad quilted bag/cover for each.

As well as selling fabric and some notions for quilting and patchwork, we also teach here in the shop. We only have a tiny workshop area - 4 people max - however we've introduced quilting to quite a number of people over the past 2/3 years, and some of those are now quite avid quilters - they just can't get enough 😁.
Sadly the impact of the virus and the common sense actions we need/must take here in the shop means we have to start cancelling some of our classes starting... with ALL those scheduled for or due to start in April. It'll be a huge hit to our income (the shop's that is) which is already affected - we love what we do and we do what we love - but we absolutely do not want to contribute to the spread nor take any chance of being carriers of the virus even here in our little shop. We wouldn't/couldn't guarantee the sanitisation of our sewing machines, scissors, pins and needles, the iron all of which everyone uses.
Life will get back to normal at some point - we have to remain positive about that - meanwhile, happy quilting X

Here in the little town of Biggar, Scotland we might just have the most expensive limited edition Charm Pack - it’s priceless.
Just like a regular charm pack, there are 42 squares of ...... let’s describe it as ‘white on white’ pattern, soft to touch, versatile in its uses. Put this on your shelf with other unopened pre-cuts ...... ooops, meant pre-perforated items, or ready to use immediately
This’ll be one item from this particular quilt shop that your husband wouldn’t m...ind spending your money on 😁.
Happy wiping, X

In case any of our customers had planned to attend the British Quilt & Stitch Village show down in Uttoxeter next month, they too have had to postpone the event. It’s now in September.
Its going to be a very busy quilting calendar at other end of the year.

What do you get on a Saturday in the shop when it’s gone a wee bit quiet in the afternoon (🤔 wonder where everyone is) and you have a Saturday girl in her late teens with the latest model iPhone with a cool camera?
“Go and have a play” I said ......
So courtesy of Cerys, here she’s showing off some of our recent Charm Packs, Jelly Rolls and Honey Buns - all of which would look better on your shelves than ours 😁.

Since returning from Glasgow we’ve received several enquiries about the Indigo Gatherings collection we had on our stand.
It only arrived at the shop the week before leaving for Glasgow - on the Saturday Cerys cut all the fabric required for our Cornflower pattern, for Debbie to make a quilt top measuring 86”x104” on the Sunday, Monday & Tuesday. We hung it up on Wednesday in Glasgow.
A bundle of this deliciousness - total of 7.5m worth of fabric - is what you need to ma...ke the entire quilt top for £90 including the pattern. If you’d like one of these bundles, just send us a message - free postage until the end of March.
Unfortunately we haven’t yet updated the website with either the fabrics nor kit - messaging us is currently the only way to get hold of a kit.

My glass is still half full - postponed is so much better than cancelled. The organisers have done well to get it rescheduled.
We’re positive that the craic [being very careful of spelling & autocorrect 😬] will be worth another few months’ wait.

Two weeks from yesterday we'll be sailing the Irish Sea - even for just the 2.5 hour sea crossing Debbie will soon be starting her seasickness management programme otherwise she's going to be green around the gills 🤢. Me? I've got pretty good sea legs - I'll be looking after the #1 priority ……… the fabric of course 😂
If you can make it to this show please come and show your support - it's the first event of many and is being organised by quilters for quilters (and for wool fans too) and in what looks to be a gorgeous venue. https://quiltfayre.com/

That’s now a full day after getting home from 5 long hardworking but fun and enjoyable days in Glasgow. I think Debbie and I have caught up on sleep, unloaded a van and a car back into the shop, and filled the shelves nearly back to normal for re-opening again tomorrow.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stand, chatted to us, admired our gorgeous quilts (not biased at all of course) and bought some fabric from us. With hand on heart we very much appreciate our customers and we hope we expressed our sincere thanks to everyone at the show - it’s tough out there but we do what we love and love what we do. Bring on Belfast in 2 weeks’ time ..... Quilt Fayre here we come.

Biggar Stitches’ 2020 UK Spring Tour (well, 3/4 of the UK anyway ) ....... we were in Harrogate last month, we’re currently in Glasgow right now and then we’re heading to Belfast on 24 March.
We too have 4 tickets to Quilt Fayre to give away - who would like a complimentary ticket to attend on any of the days?

40 bolts of gorgeousness ..... newly arrived Indigo Gatherings by one of our favourites Primitive Gatherings for Moda.
Look what Debbie knocked up with the collection in a couple of days .....

Nothing like opening curtains this morning to the Clyde river so perfectly still and acting as a mirror image to the STV studios here in Glasgow. A great start to day 2 of the Scottish Quilt show - many many gorgeous bolts awaits us.
