I used the "fix your own bike" corner once and the staff was really helpful and nice! Although I thought I would have to change the gears, the guys there just showed me how to repair and I paid really little money for second hand parts!
I would definitely recommend the shop and the fix your own, especially if you are on a budget!

I bought a 2nd hand part for my bike; however, it broke within 2 minutes of fitting it to the bike. this was at the start of a remote camping trip. I wouldn't have minded that much but I paid way over what I would have expected for the part in the first place. Also, on the three trips I went to the shop i found the staff either unwilling to share their knowledge, or just generally disinterested in serving me. it's a shame because as a charitable setup /social enterprise it's a great idea; but just fails to deliver the front end service.

Everything is so expensive ,for example I went to buy second hand tyers, but the tyers were more overpriced than new one. It was just one instance, if you look at the repairing price, check, buying a bike etc all are pricy than before.
Gumtree is better and so cheaper

I have just come back from three weeks cycling in France with a touring bike built by The Bike Station. I had the most amazing time especially as they did such a good job building my customised bike. They managed to find a small enough frame for me and it fit perfectly.

Put a bike in for a service and repair quoted £120 phoned 2 days later new quote £165 I said fine phone up to see how things where going told waiting for a part and the price went up to £185 went to pick the bike up charged £190 now if I was told it was going to be £190 for a substandard job I would have taken the bike else where the gears don't work correctly they changed the original saddle for a ripped second hand one the original one was ok .
all the parts where cheap or secondhand I'm only posting this as a warning to other people to stay clear of this place. I usually fix my own bikes downhill and trail etc . so I know when the jobs sub standard but thought I would give them the job too my cost hope this helps someone get a heads up

My bike was serviced elsewhere a month ago & was botched to say the least & i didn't want to take it back to them again. Took it to The Bike Station & they done a great job sorting out the issues i had. I knew as soon as I got on the bike for a quick test run following the service that they'd fixed it and my Cannondale Synapse disc road bike is running like a dream again. Cant comment highly enough. Thank you.
