Blackaddie Country House Hotel

Well myself and my partner had a nightmare of a time at this establishment. After arriving 30 minutes early we decided to walk our dogs to pass the time, on our walk we quickly realised that there were no fenced of gardens that are depicted in the pictures online for the dogs to run around. So we returned to the hotel to ask hotel staff. The owner told my partner to meet her at the gate and she'd show her where we would be staying. My partner returned to inform me that there was no separate garden for our pets and that when she questioned this matter the woman simply said can't you chain then up which she was shocked by. So the woman went back into the hotel and my partner we in to ask for our deposit back due to the misrepresentation of the pictures online and the true location upon which the lady of the house became extremely aggressive shouting and swearing at my partner and then proceeded to assault her and then called the police pretending to be the victim. When my partner returned to the car in tears I said I'd go in simply to ask why this had happened and I was met with the same extremely aggressive old woman shouting and screaming in my face and proceeded to assault me Aswell. We left the location shocked heading for Sanquhar police station. As we were driving we saw a police vehicle heading towards the blackaddie hotel so after a u turn we returned to the car park to speak to police. Upon speaking to police and them agreeing we were assaulted we decided we will be having her charged by police for assault. I urge anyone in this area to seek accommodation elsewhere. TripAdvisor reviews indicate that they don't care about people's nut allergies or vegetarian needs, have on occasion called people liars due to a broken key and on numerous occasions shouted at paying customers. They are a disgraceful outfit.

Absolute disgrace. Building and food were excellent. The lady who runs the front of house is terrible. Rude, unprofessional and confrontational. Avoid this place

Lovely two night stay at Blackaddie. Very relaxed, at home, feel. Staff very helpful but unintrusive. Food was highlight of the stay. Excellent! Worthy of three rosettes. Each course beautifully presented, but more to the point, deliciously different. Parmesan ice cream works.....and every course had something to set the taste buds alight. Food to savour. Well done!

We stayed at the Blackaddie a couple of years ago. The staff were really lovely and the food was so wonderful it almost brought us to tears. Our room was fine and the countryside is charming in the area.

The whole experience was sublime. We chose to go because it was a reasonable distance and pet friendly. The lodge was perfectly acceptable and the walks for dogs are perfect. What came as a real surprise though was the food. AMAZING......made with love, passion and artistry. Fine dining at its best. Loath to write a review as this wee gem I want to keep for us!! The hotel is rustic and cosy and they have big plans for development. I personally liked the character and contrast of rustic surroundings and exquisite food. If we can get a booking....we will most certainly be back. A real treat for the taste buds.......served in a friendly, family way.

I consider myself an amiable and easy going person and have visited all manner of hotels, b&b's and bedsits through work and leisure over the years. The Blackaddie Country House Hotel is the first that I have had to leave in the first hour due to the behaviour of the staff, ranging from disinterested to downright bad mannered.

My advice to anyone visiting this establishment is to avoid at all costs especially should you book through a deal website, in my case Secret Escapes. It was made clear by the head chef and owner that we had booked a 'cheap' room and we are still awaiting an apology from the establishment, after a member of staff lost their temper and attempted to yank my girlfriend's luggage from her grasp, scratching her wrist in the process. It would appear that asking for another room is not advised in this hotel, even if the dwelling is stuffy, dusty and generally grubby.

Unfortunately I was not able to delight in the so-called wonderful food that is served at the Blackaddie as we only stayed at the hotel for an hour. Most of this was spent waiting for the volatile member of staff that proceeded to make us feel as uncomfortable as possible for daring to ask for a move.

Top marks go to the Blackaddie Country House Hotel for an unpleasant and feel bad experience. I post this review after 2 weeks of waiting for a refund and still awaiting a well deserved apology.
