"How I learned" is today's prompt on #marchmeetthemaker
I've always been the artistic one in my family. Whenever mum had some art display or project she had to prep for her job as a teacher I'd get roped in.
Then I learned about design and training my eye for detail doing my architect degree at university. Lots of detailed pencil drawings were completed as part of that training.
... But ever since I left architecture to work in retail I lost that creative side of me.
Last Xmas my mum got me this book as I had a grand idea I was going to start crafting again and make Sophie a pile of cute handmade toys... I learnt quickly just how complex hand sewing is!
So I got a couple basic animal craft kits from The Works and Hobbycraft and taught myself basic running stitch. Got quickly bored of the kits I started drawing my own shapes and sewing them up until I got to my cat shape which has become the core product and ever more detailed as the months past.
I'll make one of the animals in this book one day soon for Sophie as they are just too cute.
My advice is just get started and try again and again until you hone your skills.
What would you like to learn to do?

Reducing waste is today's prompt from #marchmeetthemaker. It is something that I am striving to achieve as a small handmade business. I think it's really in my control... ♥️I sell on Etsy as they are offsetting the carbon emissions my shipping will create ♥️I've recently used up all my plastic selo wrapping I started the company with and don't intend on buying anymore plastic. I currently send my orders out in fitted cardboard boxes and large orders get a backing card and s...ome tissue paper to snuggle up in. ♥️The very nature of handdrawn designs on felt mean I utilize almost every inch of the felt. However when there is a usable off cut section, I keep them in a wee box and they are recrafted into a small marking on a different cat or long narrow stripes become backers to make the small bows super thick. ♥️Last but not least is my stuffing for my cats. This stuffing is recycled from tired old unloved toys that would otherwise hit landfill themselves. @ Uddingston

ME is the #marchmeetthemaker prompt today...
This is me! HELLO
I'm not one for selfies really. Actually I'm pretty camera shy. Definitely couldn't be one of these makeup selling ladies out there doing lives 🤣 well I could but I doubt I'd sell much haha!
... I'm a 36 year old mum of 4 year old Sophie and married for 7 years to Mr Grumpy. I work full-time and craft whenever I get a spare minute as a destresser tool. When I'm not busy with all that I am on slimming world trying my best to loose a stone for my sisters wedding.
Tell me about you...

Story behind the name... BODDLE FELT
Felt is fairly obvious; it's the material I create all my products from.
What is a Boddle though? Well... boddle is an auld Scots way of saying Bothwell which is the village I grew up in and my parents still live in.
... It has a ruined castle in it, the river Clyde runs through it, the castle wall surround it. It also has a golf club and a massive community event called Bothwell scarecrow festival once a year where the whole village puts scarecrows in their garden and there is a big parade with a pipe band and lots of displays from local groups and business like the neighbouring tunnocks factory.
I've lived in over 30 homes across Scotland and it's always Bothwell I come back to when my life needs the reset button. So it felt right to name it after my Bothwell.

It's #worldbookday and Sophie decided to be the black cat Mog from the book Meg & Mog which I also used to read as a child. It's her favourite book so she can almost read it herself at 4 and I often hear her reading it to her teddies in bed at night. When I handed her into nursery I did feel a bit "extra" tho as only her and a boy dressed as a superhero were dressed up! Did you dress your kid/cat up today?
