No complaints about the hospital but the parking is atrocious. Spent an hour and a quarter getting to hospital then over half an hour looking for a space to park eventually had to park at the end of a row on hatch lines or miss my appointment. £90 parking ticket on return to car. Car park not fit for purpose.

All of the staff, without exception, have treated us with utmost professionalism and empathy. The premises are probably not the most modern, but I'd prefer skilled and caring nurses, doctors and supporting staff. We felt like we could not have received better care anywhere else.

I had emergency surgery at this hospital. All the staff were fantastic, from the cleaners to the consultants. The place is clean and they look after you very well. Thank you!

The courtesy of BGH staff is great. From admin to nurses and doctors. Professional and ready to find the best way to treat a patient. They really take extra time and effort to make one feel comfortable and safe. Thank you to all of you

Parking is not very good.

Good enough general hospital IF...
IF you live in the Borders and can afford to travel.
IF you can find a parking space without provoking the quota-driven private parking firm who run the carpark.
IF you can afford/have the time to travel 30-40 miles every time you need more than a painkiller.
IF you don't mind being referred to Edinburgh (30-50 miles) at the drop of a hat.

As a family, we have had shockingly bad experiences at BGH. 1st interesting experience was when my daughter was involved in a horrible accident when a horse threw her whilst spooking it's self. It ran up a banking threw her (around 15 ft) drop then lost it's footing and fell heavily crushing her. There was no telephone reception. So we carefully put her in the back of my car and headed to BGH. She was screaming in agony. On arrival at A&E I was told that nobody could come to the car and help me. Even though you could hear her screaming. I was told I would have to wait for an Ambulance to help. (I was parked at the front door) I asked one Ambulance driver for help, I was told I would have to wait while he wheel chaired in an elderly lady with a bad cough. The screaming continued, nobody cared, I was beside myself. Once inside A&E the care was almost non existent. My daughter had a broken leg, the other injuries were not diagnosed until much later. If you need A&E please go to the Royal in Edinburgh. BGH's care was scandalously bad.
