🚨 Tuberculosis in cats 🚨
We are aware that there have recently been a few reports of tuberculosis in cats. This disease is caused by a bacteria and, similar to in people, can cause lesions in the lungs, skin or throughout the body. Common signs can include a persistent cough, bringing up bloody phlegm, nodules in the skin, weight loss, inappetance, and a fever.
For more information see the international cat care advice attached below, or if you have any questions please call the practice to speak to one of our vets or nurses for advice.

**Jack** Jack came into the e-vets emergency service, as his owners were concerned that he had been struggling for breath and was quieter than usual. He was immediately admitted for bloodwork and x-rays, which found that his lungs were being compressed by infected fluid within his chest cavity.
Jack was kept under 24/7 care in the hospital for several days so we could give pain relief and antibiotic medication - all the time under close monitoring and supportive care from ou...r veterinary nurses.
There was so much fluid within his chest that we had to place chest tubes, allowing it to be cleared several times daily - we got a few litres of fluid out by the end!
Jack later went for chest surgery, which was monitored by our registered veterinary nurses - here the vets found an abscess in his lungs, which they were able to remove. Jack made a fantastic recovery from his procedure and, with regular visits and fuss from his owners, was back on his feet in no time at all!
Jack went home on medication, and was back in the hospital this week for a check up - everyone in the practice is delighted to see that he is well on the road to recovery!

Yesterday was a puppy filled day for our team. All hands were on deck when Gracie required a caesarian section to help deliver her pups. The operation was a success and five healthy puppies were born. Gracie once recovered was able to go home and recuperate with her little family. Enjoy the cute photos of Gracie and her pups from yesterday.

Wonderful beagle friendly venue with biscuits galore for the well behaved pooches! Bowls of water on tap for the more thirsty canines and if that water leaves said canines via an exit, the staff are on hand to clean up. Overnight stays can be recommended if they can't be avoided and the staff are more than happy to update you on progress of pet! Almost 10 years with this practice cannot recommend them highly enough!

Used this surgery not so long ago, after my dear dog ate 200g of chocolate. He will never get near anything like this again. I felt so bad at leaving this about. He survived everything well, thank goodness. Was looking forward to my chocolate, but sure am glad that Paddy is well. A huge thanks to all.

User

To me Braid Vets are 5 star, especially the team over in Dalkeith, all 4 of our dogs are now registered with them. The team are very pro active and get to the bottom of ailments & concerns even when I call with random questions! We always see the same band of vets, nurses, reception staff & the service very much feels one to one. I constantly recommend Braid Vets to my clients. Keep up the good work team.

User

Thanks for your great care of a feline patient who can be difficult, to say the least !!!-- Louis, 20 years old and with plenty of attitude! 8 teeth removed at his age and he has come home on great form.

Just over two weeks ago my young GSD Luna was spayed at Braid and it couldn't have been a better experience for both of us, though I was dreading it.

Well worth the 70 mile round trip for peace of mind and results like this.

User

Thank you for taking good care of my 17 year old cat who recently had to have 10 teeth taken out. At her age and with early onset kidney failure I was terrified at having her put under GA but the vet was very reassuring. She fully recovered from her op and is now back to enjoying life again.

User

Thank you for looking after my rats so well and the genuine kindness and compassion showed by your team when one of my ladies had to be put to sleep a few weeks ago.

User

Our miniature dachshund Cali has always received fantastic care from the team at braid vets (mayfield), especially throughout the diagnosis and treatment of short ulna syndrome when she was 6 months old. Very supportive, answering all our questions, offering advice and giving Cali lots of cuddles and attention while she was there. The operation was a complete success and Cali is now running around as though nothing ever happened! Thank you all again!

Just took my little dog in this morning for an emergency appointment. I cannot say enough positive things about Dr. Gillian Hunter! She was very thorough and gentle in her approach. And the ladies at the front desk were very helpful and friendly. Hopefully I won't need any emergency appointments in the future, but if I do, we will definitely use the e-vets at Braid.

User

Im gutted to hear Mike is leaving. A 5 Star vet. I definitely think they gave my dog Cherokee a extra few years with the good treatment. We had to get her put down last year at 17 years old. At Cherokees passing Mike was a absolute gentleman and really helped us get through a very hard time. Explaining what was happening and took extra care of our baby. I would recommend this vet as really looks after your pets not just out for money like some vets. Alison is another great vet that helped Cherokee and is now helping us with our new puppy Buster. Good luck Mike for the future. You will be missed!!!

User

I have experience of the Dalkeith practice and the Mayfield Hospital, the staff, nurses and vets at both venues are absolutely fantastic. They greet my dogs by name, and put them at ease. I would highly recommend Braid Vets.

User

I had to make an emergency appointment as my cat was urinating blood. Although the bill came to £200, I'm satisfied it was worth it. My cat was seen at very short notice (we did have a bit of a wait, but this was understandable as the other animals were in a worse state than my cat), and the vet was wonderful with him. My cat is very nervous and was terrified, but the vet we saw soothed him and was very compassionate and calming. After antibiotics, an anti inflammatory and a pain killer, my cat was feeling better in a matter of hours and I couldn't be more grateful to Braids.

User

For the second time we've had to bring one of our precious pets to you in a total panic. You are amazing people and we cannot thank you enough. Last night our dog was so well cared for and, whilst we don't ever want to go to e-vets, with your professionalism and knowledge, it could not be a more perfect experience.

User

Fantastic service, from the receptionist all the way through. I have my two Borders with them, the older one had a serious accident last November, and the immediate care and attention paid to him was amazing, they made a very stressful time much more pleasant, thank you. I also have a young one, and he has had a fabulous time, he LOVES going to the vets!!!! We get timely text reminders about routine prevention stuff and also.about the boosters etc, brilliant, as I would forget!

All in all great, thank you.

User

E-vets - Called out of hours emergency number this week, vet nurse asked we take my dog in urgently with a suspected twisted gut, turned out to be pulmonary edema and was very serious. I have to thank Pablo, Connor and veterinary staff for their quick thinking, treatment and care they saved her. Thank you very much

Very Expensive. Recently had our new wee miniature Jack Russell, Oscar registered at Braids Vets in Leith Walk. The people their are fantastic. They are very Expensive that is the only bad thing I can say against them. I know it can be expensive to run practices but if other very good veterinary practices in the area can do it then why not Et tu, Brute.

If they could only come in line price wise as to that of the other vets in the area that would gain them another two stars in my view and a fuller practice. So sorry I can only give three stars still good though.

User

Went in for an emergency as thought my cat had swallowed 2 tablets containing paracetamol, although I wasn’t 100% sure I as didn’t actually see it happen. Although the reception lady was lovely and polite the vet himself was horrible lacked all skills you’d expect from a vet. I was told that the treatment would cost just under £500 pound. When I said I can’t afford that the vet had asked me “what are you willing to pay?” Which has made me think he wasn’t being honest with me at all. Why was he telling me that that treatment was necessary and would cost 500 and then ask me what I was willing to pay?? I then said that I’d rather just take my cat home as I didn’t really feel safe and confident in leaving her there and the vet said “if you do that she will 100% die”. I believe that was the complete wrong thing to say, lacking any compassion and empathy. In a way it also felt like emotional blackmail - either you pay this or your pet will die. I felt devastated but I didn’t proceed with the treatment as with the way that I have been spoken to I didn’t feel confident and reassured enough to leave my pet there.

Moreover, I wasn’t allowed to leave for ages as the vet has been trying to set up a payment plan on my behalf which I wasn’t even aware of as he didn’t inform me of this.

I still had to pay 130 for the consultation which in itself is actually ridiculous! I ended up taking my cat home with the belief she was going to die as told by the vet. She ended up being completely fine. This experience has left me completely shocked and I know for a fact I will never be able to trust a vet again. They are meant to love animals, but from the experience I realise the bigger picture - it’s all just for the money.

User

So I recently collected a prescription seemed expensive for 2 weeks worth nothing new the price changes every month I have questioned this on numerous occasions to be fobbed of ..... price of medication changes all the time. My last visit I asked about the cost of the prescription to be told it's cheaper to get the medication from you as the charge of the prescription is almost as much as the medication. I have had prices from another vets today and have been told £13 for a months supply ...... BRAID vets has been charging us £50 per month that's £450 a year absolutely disgraceful rip off merchants. Will be having our last visit next month and only because we have already paid for the boosters and consultation in the pet plan

User

I hated those vets about 5 years ago my self and my two daughters took my daughter Emma hamster up cause it wasent well and it was the only vet open we took it up the lady vet put the hamster on the table didn’t hold it so it wouldn’t fall off and the hamster fell off the table broke it’s leg and the hamster wend blind as a result so I’m sorry I hate that vet they don’t care about animals I have never stepped foot in that place ever since

User

I am extremely angry and upset that the veterinary nurse removing and changing my dogs bandage has ripped skin and hair from my dog. I want this to be highlighted to her so she can learn. Simply ripping off an adhesive bandage that is stuck on hair only causes pain and suffering that could have been avoided. The area is extremely raw with blood spotting and is swollen due to the pain inflicted. There are ways to carefully and painlessly remove an adhesive bandage without tearing off hair and skin as well.
