Gorgeous garden & interesting house. Well kept. Toilets on site & a wee shop. Lovely hour or so.
Loveley hidden gem almost centre of Kirkcudbright, backing onto the river.
Lovely garden.
We weren't that interested in the house, to be honest, but the garden is amazing, even in the rain. Do go if you are in the area, you won't be disappointed.
Lovely house and garden, the garden being one of our all time favourites. We've been visiting for years and it's been interesting to see the changes and developments over time both in the garden and the house. The Japanese anemones have always been a highlight for us (and the occasional friendly cat!). The house is impressive and it's a great opportunity to see Hornel's paintings in situ and to see how he was influenced by his travels and how he worked from photographs.
Unmissable. possibly the best of the many fascinating and beautiful places of all to visit in fabulous "artists' town" Kirkcudbright. McClellan's Castle (which is also great) being shut for repairs, we had all the more time in Hornel's gem house and garden - no bad thing at all.
Interesting place to visit with many oddities. Activity sheets provided for the children.
A fascinating house in the middle of the beautiful Kirkudbright. The house itself houses many works of art and is lovely to explore. The garden is a real surprise running all the way down to the river and created with style and some humour
