Broxburn

About Broxburn

The name Broxburn is a corruption of "brock's burn", brock being an old name for a badger and burn being a Scots word for a stream. The village was earlier known as Easter Strathbrock (Uphall was Wester Strathbrock).

Broxburn Description

Our neighbouring town, Linlithgow, has a successful and useful Facebook page being used by the community. Many from Broxburn have asked for something similar, so here it is. Use it sensibly and responsibly and we'll be fine. Remember there may be younger people on here too, so make sure anything posted is suitable for them too!

As with all such groups, volunteers are always needed. If you have any time to spare, even a couple of hours per month, this group would certainly appreciate your help.

Broxburn and Uphall - Our Community I Our Choice I Our Vision Soft launch of Consultation
A group of local residents of Uphall and Broxburn have come together to create a plan that will make the area a better place to live, work and visit. They have identified you as someone who has (maybe through representing an organisation) an interest in the community. We are finalising a suite of community meetings, at which point we will formally launch the research and we will circul...ate posters etc. In the meantime there is a community survey and we would be really grateful if you would circulate this to friends, neighbours, your constituents and members. Please distribute on social media if you can.
We will get back in touch soon with other information as we hope to involve and update you as the research progresses.
Thanks in advance for all your help.

News Just in - Briefing Note – New Blue Bus Service 2 Introduced
In response to the recently approved changes to E&M Horsburgh’s service 7, which removed the Broxburn Town service from operation between 9am-5pm Monday – Friday and from 9am-3pm on Saturdays, Blue Bus have approached the council for short notice support to commence a replacement (like for like) service from Monday 27 November 2017. Also from this date, there will be a few journeys removed from Blue Bus servic...e 20, as we have identified that these duplicate the same journey operated by First Group on service 29. A summary of the impacts of these service updates are as follows:
Service - 2 Route Description - Crossgreen – Strathbrock Partnership Centre – Broxburn, Hoban Square Impact - Addresses the gap cancelled E&M Horsburgh Service 7 presented. Essentially passengers will continue to have more residential areas served by local bus. Service named 2 in line with other First Services operating in this area.
Service - 20 Route Description - Morning Peak journeys 07:17 Broxburn – Bathgate; 07:55 bathgate – Broxburn & 08:27 Broxburn – Bathgate removed. Impact - Passengers have close alternatives on Service 29, operating the same route.

By email from Edinburgh Airport -
EDINBURGH AIRPORT AIRSPACE CHANGE UPDATE
Hello
... Following on from my previous email where we advised that the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) had temporarily halted its review of our Airspace Change Proposal, I would like to share an update with you.
Whilst we continue to work with NATS and the CAA to clarify the points raised, we have now published our Rationale Document explaining what we have proposed and why.
Our Airspace Change Proposal responds directly to what we learned during the two periods of consultation and the many voices that participated have influenced our thinking and indeed the choices we have had to make. It is no exaggeration to say that our submission is a collective work. We have actively listened and have been grateful for the levels of engagement we’ve received. Every submission has been read, assessed and considered as part of our proposal design.
Throughout the programme our task has been to make a case – a case based on balancing our communities’ requirements, our operational requirements and the requirements of our regulator. I hope that you recognise our striving for balance and that the consultations undertaken have formed a critical part of our thinking.
Based on feedback received during consultation we have also commissioned an Environmental Assessment which addresses environmental issues such as noise and air quality as well as a tranquillity and visual intrusion study, a health impact assessment and an equalities impact assessment.
You can read more about our proposal and our Environmental Assessment on our website www.letsgofurther.com
I hope that you find these reports useful and would like to thank you again for your engagement with our programme to date.

Edinburgh Airport will be carrying out essential maintenance on Runway 24 during the dates and time listed below. During this period runway 12/30 will be used for both arrival and departures to Edinburgh Airport, and all flights will use alternative flight paths. The maintenance works are necessary due to normal wear and tear and we plan for such occurrences, residents should be safe in the knowledge that this is not unexpected work though it is essential.
An increase in nois...e levels for those who are not normally overflown is possible; we apologise in advance for any disturbance that this maintenance work and use of the alternative runway may cause.
The repairs will take place overnight to keep disruption to local communities to a minimum, with the main runway reopening at 05:30 each morning.
Saturday 7th, Sunday 8th of October 2017 between 23:15 and 05:30. Saturday 14th, Sunday 15th of October 2017 between 23:15 and 05:30. Saturday 21st, Sunday 22nd of October 2017 (Contingency) between 23:15 and 05:30.
According to the airport, the areas possibly affected are - Bonnyrigg Loanhead Fairmilehead Colinton Sighthill South Gyle Kirkliston Bo'ness (Not sure how Kirkliston and Bo'ness are but not Broxburn!)
If you do receive complaints regarding flight paths or noise issues, please do not hesitate to advise your members and communities to contact us via the contact details below Telephone number - 08007313397 Email - noise@edinburghairport.com

The 2017 gala is to take place on Saturday, August 26 and we hope to see as many people as possible taking part or turning out to support the event. So many groups are really looking forward to the day and the parade is the highlight of many organisations calendars!
