Buchlyvie Village Hall Description

On Feb 1st 1883 a public meeting chaired by the Rev John McDonald, minister of the south church in Station Road, agreed unanimously to the construction of a new meeting place in the village. A fifteen strong committee was setup and subsequently it was agreed that a village hall should be built, paid for by public conscription. The largest contribution of the necessary money came from James Harvie who had the hall bell tower named after him. The final cost of the build came to £1, 234, 12 shillings and one pence. One year later, on the 22 May 1884, the foundation stone was laid. Six months after that building work was completed and the Buchlyvie Village Hall was officially opened on November 7th 1884.
