Bad experience! My fault I was persuaded to buy the wrong bike for me – Velo Ecosse was “selling it for someone else” - who had bought the bike from them & he ( the purchaser) then decided it wasn’t the bike for him. He ( Gregor from Velo Ecosse) described it as “new other” & overstated the original price as £1400 & said the owner wanted £1100. The “owner’s wife” apparently agreed to my offer of £1000.
Once home – 130 miles from the shop - I decided I’d made a big mistake & promptly returned the bike – accepting my responsibilities & asking Gregor if he’d re-sell the bike or make me an offer there and then to buy it to sell on. He said he was too busy to give me a price – but promised to phone me with an offer later that day – or certainly within 48 hours. HE NEVER PHONED! I tried phoning the shop – but as noted in reviews on various websites he “never” answers the phone.
On the Saturday morning 3 weeks later I was passing through Edinburgh and called at the shop at its reported opening time of 10.00. I could see the bike through the window – but by 10.30 nobody had turned up to open the shop! I tried phoning – but of course again – no reply. I had to leave.
Another 2 weeks later I managed to visit the shop – at 12.15 – to find a note on the door “back in 10 minutes”. I had to top up the parking meter to enable me to wait for over 30 minutes for the owner to return. His first words – “didn’t you get the message I left on your phone?”!!!!! I check my phone repeatedly and THERE WAS NO MESSAGE AND NO RECORD OF A CALL FROM THE VELO ECOSSE NUMBER. Gregor then told me he had sold my bike for £650. He then asked what I thought would be a reasonable amount for him to charge as commission! Thankfully my wife was with me so no untoward scenes followed and the said £650 was refunded to my bank card.
Fool me – but a very angry fool. I’ll NEVER go into this shop again. Be warned.
