We called here twice on the 4th May on a round trip from Newcastle to Glasgow. This is a credit to service stations and a few more need to take a leaf out of Cairn Lodge's book. The staff were friendly and polite the eating area was immaculately clean and tidy, no cluttered or sticky tables. The whole area was clean and tidy. The food was hot and delicious and they make a cracking Americano coffee. The toilets were also immaculately clean. Well done Cairn Lodge, keep up the good work. Others take note, this is how it should be.

User

Stopped here with my wife on our way to Dunfermline for a bite to eat & use the loos & found it to be nice & clean & the staff were very friendly and helpful too. Couldn't fault the place, nice food at a very reasonable price too.

User

Stop here every time on my way to Scotland I think it’s great

Not like other places which have fast food shit like harry ramsden Berger king and others

Cairn lodge you get proper food

User

Refurb was much needed and well executed... cairn lodge has gone from somewhere “you’d stop if you had to” to somewhere “you’d choose to stop over others!”

User

Real homemade meals at reasonable prices - no horrible fast food here. Highly recommend

User

New farm shop is great. Excellent selection of deli foods as well as gifts clothing home wares and children’s toys. Not as big as it’s partners at Tebay or Gloucestershire but still really good with locally sourced produce.

Thankyou for doing larger sizes in the women’s clothing range too .

I’m local but would call here for gift and food shopping

User

I used to live in this area and I was popping through yesterday and really fancied a coffee. We pulled into the car park and the place was so busy. Got into the restaurant and was blown away with decor and beautiful furnishings. It's spotless and that's coming from a hotel auditor. There were lots of people outside eating and drinking as it was a perfect sunny day to match the sunny ,happy and very helpful staff. Keep up the good work and I will definitely be back when I'm in the ares and I will let my friends and family know all about you. Chears for a great coffee. Xx

Gets my vote as the most improved motorway service area I have visited. Used to be a place to avoid, now so much better. A credit to its now operators.

User

Fantastic place to stop and have breakfast, being done up

At the moment so partly done, staff are lovely, so much better than other services, give it a go.

User

Clean and tidy just how a service station should be. Many charging points for phones and tablets. Also a farm shop. Friendly staff

User

We've been stopping off here for years on our way up to the Highlands or on the way back. Always seem to get served by the same very nice middle aged lady in the shop. A good stop over spot and the dogs like the grassy areas to stretch their legs.

User

Really handy and nice to be off the motorway surrounded by trees and greenery yet with easy access back to the M74 north or south.

Entry signage could be clearer from the roadside, but it is lovely to be able to stretch your legs after a long (or short) drive next to trees and the beautiful castle-esque exterior.

The restaurant is huge and airy with panoramic windows. It will be amazing once refurbished, which is apparently on the cards.

The chips are unbelievably good: no seasoning required; the lasagne is amazing and the battered fish so divine (freshly cooked to order), I got another to take home I stop here regularly and highly recommend the soup, which is gastro pub quality The cakes are yum too.

Most of the staff are friendly, although I don't think the grey shirt is the most flattering uniform.

Not as expensive as most motorway services, it would be nice to see Cairn Lodge utilised to its full potential. The loos are always immaculate, which is incredible considering the footfall they must have. The shop sells some lovely products that are unusual. I've bought presents for a child's birthday and made a hamper from their quality local products.

Sparkling white paint and colourful furniture would give this place a welcome makeover, but it is well worth a visit and I will continue to come.

User

Suppose it's modelled on a cairn then. The building is quite well laid out but there the puss side ends. Signs were awful (bot traffic and pedestrian), car park a bit of a disgrace. Honestly I've parked on better marked bomb sites. The arrangements for petrol is awfully laid out. Had we not been on a long distance bike ride and almost out of fuel we would have driven on by. Surely highways Scotland could do something better with this site.

User

Stopped there for a snack on my way down from Glasgow to London. Walked into the main shop which sells food, gifts, clothing etc. As you enter the shop there are many tasty looking cakes and pastries open on display completely uncovered. Anyone entering the shop could be coughing or sneezing over the cakes. Spoke to the food manager about it.

She agreed with me and told me many people had complained about this before and nothing had been done about it. She told me that she would never buy any of the cakes herself.

User

Been stopping here for years on way to Eurocentral Motherwell from Wakefield.! You were allowed in at one time, to buy your goodies and coffee.! Now you have to stand in the cold and ask for a coffee to be made for you. When will these pathetic Service Stations get the Message.! Truckers, on a long drive, are not out to Rob you, in fact, any would be Robber would stay well away knowing there may be a group of burly truckers having a chat and plenty coffee and wouldn't take kindly, to anyone disturbing their break in such a manner.! This goes for all the other pathetic Service Stations around this pathetic little country of ours.!!!!

User

We stopped here yesterday on the way home because we needed to change our baby. Having walked through the door we questioned if we'd ever make it; it was like a horror film.

The cleaner at the front door looked straight through us, as if we'd inconvenienced her by becoming customers. Against our better judgement we went into the cafe, which had the charm of a high-grade prison.

The building had a few placards showing that it was a historical site, which to be honest you would have guessed from the decor. The place itself looked like it hadn't been touched upon since opening. Our favourite part was sitting by our table (I will avoid mentioning the food..), when we noticed a certificate on the wall taking pride of place amongst the crumbling building. It stated they had once raised £57.17 in 1998 for a charity, which was probably donated by the last customers to walk through the door.

Avoid like the plague, unless you enjoy terrible food & atmosphere.

User

Just wasted £28.90 on stake and ale pie with veg and chips .. Chips tasted like they were cooked in burnt fat pie burnt on inside what was there . Veg greasy as anything... Wife had a lasagne that that could not dish out and had to send someone for a knife . Rock hard ..no coffee and tea was out of a tea urn that was cold ... .. avoid wasting your hard earned money on shit food stop at the next service .. .shite

It's fortunate (for the owners) this post won't allow me to attach photos. Found myself stranded here unintentionally and ended up paying £9.45 for a tiny shrivelled thing that was advertised as a "burger" - which sat lonely in a stale roll three times it's own size, with 18 tepid chips and a small glass of coke, served in a "Restaraunt" reminiscent of a miners welfare, circa 1982 (but not quite as good) ....Afterwards, I had intended to buy something safer and pre packaged from the shop, however, that had closed earlier than the 9pm advertised time - probably due to the shop worker having lost the will to live. I used to think Moto services were bad, but it's now apparent that Moto shines like a bright beacon of success, compared to the puss filled mire of hopeless inadequacy that this place resides in. Don't even think about stopping here unless it has been bulldozed and turned into something more attractive, like a morgue or a landfill. You have been warned.

User

Even if you are starving hungry do not stop at this place....what is even worse than the shockingly bad food is the price they have the cheek to charge for it. Very poor indeed :-(
