Caledonia Water Polo Mens Team

Caledonia is a composite team formed by Dunfermline WPC and Menzieshill Whitehall AS& WPC and others to compete in the British Water Polo Leagues which are played in various centralised venues in England. Each team plays each other once in phase 1 with the top teams in the league then playing the bottom teams from the league above in Phase 2. Caledonia were accepted for entry into Division 3 in 2005 and were promoted as Champions to Division 2 in 2006. Caledonia decided not to contest the play-off to stay in Div 2 in 2007 but to drop to Div 3 to concentrate on developing young team. After a close fought season, Caledonia narrowly missed promotion in 2010 and remained in Division 3 until finally achieving promotion to Div 2 in 2011. In the 2012 /2013 season, Caledonia men reached the Championship 1 round and won promotion to Div 1 for 2013 /14 season. The return of British Olympians to their clubs for 2013 made the competition fierce and Caledonia Men narrowly missed staying in the top flight for 2014. Due to the withdrawal of another top flight club Caledonia have were reinstated to the top flight for the start of the 2015 season. Sadly, a top 5 place was beyond the team so we had to compete in Championship 1 at the end of 2015 /16 season. This culminated in us winning Championship 1 during a thrilling final weekend of games! A great achievement for the team. Going into the 2016 /17 season, we started off ranked 6, but after Phase 1, we were in 3rd place, earning a place in Super 5's for the first time. 2016 /17 season saw us enter a 2nd team into the British League, Caledonia Storm. The purpose of the Storm is give opportunities to younger players, with the aim of creating a pathway to the 1st Team. The 17 /18 season saw the Storm promoted to Division 4 of the British League. Our under 19's are Swim England Age Group champions having won the final against holders Sedgefield in Manchester. A fantastic achievement for the team, the 1st Scottish team to ever win this competition.
