Calls For Heroes Description

Calls For Heroes is an initiative aiming to provide members of the UK armed forces with satellite phonecards, increasing their contact with family at home.

Currently members of our forces receive 30 minutes of call time per week, and anything additional is very expensive. The troops are not allowed to use normal mobile phones as these can be tracked by the Taliban giving away the location of the caller. Paradigm uses three Skynet 5 satellites for the UK Armed Forces, which were launched between 2007 and 2008. The satellites can be precisely controlled so that pinpoint voice, internet, and broadcast communications can be directed to any part of the globe enabling our troops to call home safely.

Calls For Heroes is a project run by the Rotary Club of Carluke & the Rotary Club of Galashiels.
