At Calum Grant, The Hair Designers we use a unique digital consultation tool - KMD Card, from KMD Systems for Hair and Beauty - for all our NEW clients. From this we collate lots of valuable information to help you to do your hair at home and get great results.
... One area that always surprises us is how few of our new clients use a styling product to style their hair at home. We, in our salon, always use styling products before drying hair so we had to ask further questions, why our new clients, don't?
From the answers we found that many people were using the wrong type of product or in many cases, they were using far too much of the product.
It is recommended that when you visit a hairdresser, make sure you get as much help from them as possible. Your hairdressers should want to help you to have great looking hair everyday and not just the day you walk out of the salon.
Let your hairdresser know if you like smooth hair or hair with volume. If you like both you may well need to use a different styling product. This advice should be free from your hairdresser and also having them show you how to apply the product and the amount your hair should require. It is always better to start of with a very small amount as you can easily add more if you need it.

This salon broke their own rules today as they do not normally have clients under 16 years old. Lulu visited the salon today for her annual star treatment from her Dad, Calum.
A relaxing shampoo by Bea using Neal & Wolf HARMONY, Intensive Care Shampoo was followed by a relaxing head massage whilst Neal & Wolf HARMONY, Intensive Care Treatment was used to condition.
Hair was applied with Neal & Wolf GLOW, Super Shine Spray before cutting as this doubles up as a great detangle...r as well as adding a natural, immaculate shine to the finished look..
Finally 5mls of Neal & Wolf SILK, Smoothing Balm was mixed with 1 drop of Neal & Wolf VELVET, Nourishing Oil and applied evenly throughout the hair before blow drying. Lulu's hair was blow dried with gentle twists to encourage the natural wave.

All the stylists have undergone extensive KMD Systems for Hair and Beauty training. From this training, they are taught to look at natural hair and how the depths of colour and tones progress through the hair.

These wise words and actions are most important to people with any sort of length or lengthy layer in their hair. Medium length to long hair should never have harsh products (especially, all over bleach) applied as this will most certainly damage the hair, become porous, toners won't stay in the hair for more than 2-3 days and the hair will most certainly take longer to dry. Also, if you find a hairdresser that can enhance, rather than change your hair colour you will have found someone that has given you a colour that looks great for a longer period of time as the regrowth will not look so noticeable when it appears.

This salon in Musselburgh, already known for their amazing 'repairs' on badly coloured hair have done it again.
Sophie called in despair on Monday and was immediately booked in on Tuesday to have her colour mended.
Calum Grant at Calum Grant, The Hair Designers says " We get many calls every week from people who have had unfortunate results from hair colouring. We use unique systems for the hair and beauty industry from KMD Systems for Hair and Beauty. From these systems we ...firstly use a clever digital consultation tool to help us assess what has previously been done to the hair. From the answers, this tool helps guide us to choose the perfect colours to hopefully enhance our clients natural hair colour. In this case with Sophie, a 'friend' had coloured her hair for her at home so rather than enhance her natural colour we had to use our 'KMD Card, complete digital consultation tool' to choose colours that would help begin a repair process for Sophie. Depending on the damage previously done and the hair length, this 'repairing' can take anything from a few months to some years to completely return to 'normal hair'. Having said that, I'm sure you will agree that Sophie's hair at least looks better after her first visit to our salon".
We always advise to call us for a consultation first before you consider having your hair coloured. Doing this can eliminate the result Sophie experienced and save normal hair from being dry, stressed and breaking.

I've spent up to 5 hours in a salon more than once with the hairdresser putting on more and more bleach trying to get the right... shade. My hair from above my ears down was basically one block colour of bleach, and the rest was stripey with different shades of blonde, I thought I'd have to leave it to grow out before it would look nice again. Calum was so helpful at my consultation and entirely honest about what he'd be able to do for my hair. I went in yesterday and he has worked absolute magic! I can't remember the last time I left the hairdressers so happy. Calum explained every step what he was doing and my hair looks natural and healthy. He also cut into the breakage so it doesn't look so obvious now. All for a great price too. I'll definitely be back. If you've got unhealthy blonde hair you have to try this place!
Holly popped in for an initial consultation to see what this salon could do for her. After that initial consultation, she booked in for her ful 'KMD Card' digital analysis. From this a plan was prepared to begin mending Holly's hair colour and condition. A future plan has now been prepared to get Holly's hair looking and feeling 'just right' for her wedding next year.
Consultation, colouring and haircutting was done by Calum using KMD Card to consult and KMD ColourBoost colouring system to colour the hair. All these tools and systems are available from salons using KMD Systems for Hair and Beauty.
