Reviews
Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy is the treatment of choice for most mental health problems, as recommended by the NICE guidelines. Within the "family" of CBT practices, there is Compassionate Mind Training. It is an intervention particularly effective for those struggling with self-criticism and perfectionism, as well as others who struggle understanding and managing emotions ( = most of us 😊) I recently came across this little animation video which explains Compassionate Mind Training / Compassionate Focused Training rather well. Have a look if you have 4 minutes to spare https://youtu.be/VRqI4lxuXAw
CBT in a nutshell? Here is a very good short video created by Mind (mental health foundation) https://youtu.be/9c_Bv_FBE-c
An interesting article. It gives a good summary laying down the reasons why antidepressants don’t work. It reviews the myths about deficiencies and chemical imbalances as the roots of depression.
“We all know that every human being has basic physical needs: for food, for water, for shelter, for clean air. It turns out that, in the same way, all humans have certain basic psychological needs. We need to feel we belong. We need to feel valued. We need to feel we’re good at something. We need to feel we have a secure future. And there is growing evidence that our culture isn’t meeting those psychological needs for many – perhaps most – people. I kept learning that, in very different ways, we have become disconnected from things we really need, and this deep disconnection is driving this epidemic of depression and anxiety all around us.”
To a wonderful start to 2018 Wishing you all every success (And for everything else there is always CBT)
There is no growth without change; there is no change without fear or loss; and there is no loss without pain
