"We offer therapeutic activities with horses for children, young people and adults with learning, social and emotional difficulties.

Cambridge Equine Assisted Learning Centre Description

Cambridge Equine Assisted Learning
Centre is an EAQ Approved Centre,
offering equine assisted learning to
children, young people and adults. There are
opportunities to engage in learning
through taking part in therapeutic
activities with horses. There is no riding
involved and the horses are chosen so
that they are safe to be around.

Equine assisted learning is a way of helping
individuals achieve their goals through interaction with horses.

Who can benefit?

Children who have:
• difficulties with traditional schooling
• special educational needs
• poor literacy and numeracy skills
• learning difficulties

Adults who would like to:
• change established behaviour patterns.

Anyone who would like to:
• increase self confidence
• raise self esteem
• improve communication skills.

Sessions are tailored to meet the needs of each individual and can be arranged on days and at times to suit you, including Saturdays. Courses run during term-time and in the holidays.

Sessions need to be booked in advance and can be organised on a one-to-one or small group basis.

We will help you to plan the length and number of sessions. We understand that everyone is different and we will do everything we can to accommodate your requirements.

There are lots of activities involving the horses.

We liaise with schools, teachers and health professionals as necessary and provide written reports for you should you need them.

If you would like a Qualification you can work towards a nationally recognised qualification such as the Award in Work Preparation for Land-based Industries or the Character Development qualifications. These are awarded by apt awards, a UK Awarding body, through our accreditation with EAQ.

We are members of EAQ which is an organisation that sets high standards for facilitators and aims to ensure that equine assisted learning is available to anyone.
EAQ has achieved external standards of excellence including the Investors in People Award and has gained accreditation with apt awards to offer nationally recognised qualifications.

Approved centres meet the standards required by these external organisations and have:
• qualified facilitators who are DBS checked
• public liability insurance
• a qualified First Aider
• an outdoor, herd-based approach to horse care
• an understanding of the physical, mental and
emotional needs of the horses

EAQ monitors the work of the centres, offering
advice and guidance for staff. Staff work to the EAQ Code of Conduct and are expected to take part in ongoing professional training and supervision.
