Matt Houlihan was just two when his father, I√Īaki, lost his battle with kidney cancer while being treated at Addenbrooke‚Äôs Hospital. Five years on, Matt and his mum, Heidi, climbed Carrauntoohil, the highest peak in Ireland, in memory of his dad.
This week he made an emotional return to Addenbrooke’s Hospital to present a cheque for £3,000 to the doctor who treated his father at Addenbrooke’s, Professor Tim Eisen.

A paediatric specialty biomedical scientist has been presented with a ‚ÄėYou Made a Difference‚Äô award for her work to care for bereaved parents.
Aimee Whyte works in our paediatric mortuary and supports the pathologist during post-mortems, and provides comfort and advice to families who have lost a child.
One of her nominations said: “Aimee has worked so hard to set up and generate funds for a free service for grieving families, where we create hand and foot clay imprints of c...hildren who have recently died.
"Aimee‚Äôs determination to do what she can, her caring nature and continual drive clearly showcase the safe, kind, and excellent nature that we all strive for at Addenbrooke's and the Rosie hospitals.‚ÄĚ

A hospital porter who supports patients with learning difficulties and frequently goes "above and beyond" has been recognised with a "You Made a Difference" award.
Kevin Peters, one of two endoscopy porters, has previously worked with people with learning difficulties and regularly supports the clinical team and patients - going so far as to make finger puppets to improve communication.
Kevin recently supported an older visitor who was driving a disabled passenger to hospita...l for a clinic appointment. When they arrived, the car had a flat tyre.
His manager, Kate Gray said: "Kevin not only stopped the traffic, he directed the visitor and patient to a safe zone, changed the tyre and then emptied the driver’s boot for her, retrieving the patient’s zimmer frame.
"Kev really is a shining example of the quality of staff we have working in our department."

Yesterday I was deeply impressed at Addenbrookes. I went along with an old lady requiring help. Ender, Anita, Myriam, Ana María, Isabel, María... were so kind and caring that I can only say I am glad I visited A&E (never thought I would say that). Yesterday was one of those days in which my spirit lifts with hope. Thank you all.

Please keep on going, don't let them cut the NHS to pieces. If we fight, we conquer.

Was in hospital yesterday for ENT surgery. I just want to thank everyone for the outstanding care I was given. The staff on the Day Surgery Unit are just amazing! Theatre Staff and Recovery Staff are just so fantastic too. My Surgeon was legendary as always! Heartfelt thanks and love to you all. Xxxxx

User

Today I had an endoscopy test at Addenbrookes and cannot speak too highly of the care and attention given by all the staff. They were very reassuring when I was very anxious and helped when I needed it most. Addenbrookes Hospital is an amazing facility and we are fortunate to live within the boundary.

User

This is a great hospital, I have had amazing treatment over nearly 40 years from the orthopaedic department. Truly great surgeons and nurses.

Let's all stop whingeing about the NHS and say a really big THANK YOU

User

My youngest ended up having an emergency operation recently and I truly can not thank all the staff involved in his care enough. Everyone we encountered from A&E through to his very short time on D2 before be discharged were truly amazing. A special thanks has to go to the surgical team including the anaesthetists who were so patient and didn't rush him. Thank you all!

User

My son recently broke his arm and those staff no D2 were absolutely excellent cannot fault his care, he was so very lucky to be in the hands in such lovely staff, massive thank you, this was week beginning 15th October. After care also excellent on clinic 1 too. Massive thank you all it is really appreciated when something not so good happens to your loved ones.

User

My little boy recently came in needing emergency surgery over the Easter weekend and couldn't be more thankful for the fantastic care we received. Mr Jonas and his team were incredible, so sympathetic and understanding. The anaesthetist and her team were very caring from start to finish so I knew my little boy was in very safe hands. Many people worry about the NHS cover at weekends and particularly busy holiday weekends but we had the best we could ask for! All the staff on D2 the following days also did a brilliant job and created a very good atmosphere on the ward for the children recovering there ÔŅĹ

My husband fell and badly injured his head. The ambulance team were wonderful. A & E were incredible. The care shown to him and to us his family was superb. All this on the night of Strawberry Fayre when there were lots of casualties. Thank you to all, especially the doctor who glued him together and Ivan the nurse who was so gentle and generally fantastic.

I spent Tuesday morning in the company of the unfailingly friendly and courteous people at Addenbrookes a&e. Thank you for treating my minor emergency with such diligence, care and good humour.

I just wanted to say thank you to the staff in the children's a&e Xmas Eve and the staff on D2 Xmas day. My daughter had broken her arm badly. They got her in straight away to deal with it and barely left her side. They kept her and I calm and kept her spirits high. My youngest daughter was also looked after and made Xmas as special as they could on Xmas day. Even though they had to be at work over Xmas they all had a smile on their faces. Can't thank you enough for your efficient quick and caring work. Will be back next week for some more x-rays and a new cast :).

User

I have worked at this Trust and with this Trust for years. It has always been a lead hospital in innovation and patient care. I get so tired of ungrateful people complaining about the quality of care that they don't have to pay or wait months for. Too many people do not appreciate the NHS and the staff that hold it together and the difficulties , poor funding and constant restrictions we have to overcome to maintain our high standards of 'Kind, Safe & Excellent' healthcare. We are 24 hour operation, 7 days a week 356 days a year. Our morale has taken a bit of a hit lately but we are still team NHS and we are still awesome. We have recently been released from special measures by the CQC. Every patient is an opportunity to shine and demonstrate our moto of 'Kind, Safe & Excellent'. Stay motivated and inspired and shine! :)

I have just had 6 days on A4 having the telemetry EEG done, and I couldn’t have been happier with all of the teams who were involved with my care! I trust you all, and appreciate the great care provided. Thankyou so much for everything..... xXx

I attended the Paediatric Day Unit yesterday with my 8 year old son (Rhys) who has Hereditary Spherocytosis. This was his first appointment and understandably, he was a little nervous. From the moment we walked in to the unit, we were blown aware by the care, compassion and professional shown to us. Rhys was put at ease, everything was explained to him in a way that he could understand. He was encouraged to ask questions and to participate in his care. He was dreading the blood test but the staff made this so much easier for him - to the point where he said he would happily have his blood taken again! I just want to say a massive thank you to the staff that work there.. you made a daunting situation so much easier to deal with... outstanding.

Hi,

We just wanted to say thank you for all the wonderful care we have received at the Rosie. Kellen from Sara Ward, Jan, Charlotte & Bethan, Rosemary & Becky on the delivery unit, and especially Senior Midwife Vicky on Lady Mary Ward. Vicky really was so amazing, we couldn't have asked for more and far exceeded our expectations in every way. She was so friendly and reassuring to us new parents, she made it so much easier for us. Please make sure that our thanks are passed on to her and her line manager. Student midwife Bethan was so kind and helpful during our first feed as well and really helped us off to a great start. Please pass on our thanks to all of those involved and of course all the other staff that make the hospital run smoothly. We are so thankful for the free and the point of delivery NHS and the service it provides the nation cradle to grave.

Many thanks

Can I just say thank you to all on L4, also the consultant who performed the surgery on a relative of mine who was discharge last night. Yes there was some blips which lack of communication was to blame, but this happens in the world but over all the care she received was faultless and I for one feel grateful to everyone involved. Thank you L4

Xxxxx

Today I had an endoscopy test at Addenbrookes and cannot speak too highly of the care and attention given by all the staff. They were very reassuring when I was very anxious and helped when I needed it most. Addenbrookes Hospital is an amazing facility and we are fortunate to live within the boundary.

User

I'm here working on boxing day like many others saving lives etc... I'm so proud to work for this hospital and everyone deserves the highest of praises as we all do an amazing job. Well done everyone.

User

Many thanks

Chris, Cho Cho and baby Mya

Can not thank the staff for the level of care I received today, absolutely outstanding. Thank you to all and rest well when you have the chance, you all deserve it.

User

Can I just say thank you to all on L4, also the consultant who performed the surgery on a relative of mine who was discharge last night. Yes there was some blips which lack of communication was to blame, but this happens in the world but over all the care she received was faultless and I for one feel grateful to everyone involved. Thank you L4
