Polo is a fast, fun and exciting sport that is growing rapidly, and playing through the university is an amazing opportunity to experience it at a fraction of the normal cost. The club caters for players with any level of experience, from total beginners to previously handicapped players. The one thing we do ask is that you have some experience of riding. We have eleven ponies of our own, and play all year round - in the arena through the winter months, and out on the grass during the summer. We regularly send teams of differing abilities to tournaments, and host many ourselves, with the year culminating in the Varsity Match at Guards in June.

The fantastic arena at our home ground, Cambridge County Polo Club, has had a little spruce up and is all set for the winter arena season! The executive committee are responsible for the day to day management of the club, and are all current under- or post-graduate members of Cambridge University.
* Robyn Macrae - Captain *... - PhD in Cardiovascular Research, at St Catharine’s College. - Started playing polo at Cambridge 2 years ago after having ridden most of my life. - Highlight of last year was playing Ladies Varsity and meeting so many fantastic, friendly people through the club. - For this year I’m really looking forward to introducing more people to this amazing sport as well as developing a really strong inter team who can smash it at Varsity!
* Erik Rudicky - Secretary & Sponsorship Manager * - PhD in Politics and International Studies, at Corpus Christi College. - Started playing polo as a beginner with CUPC last year. - Highlights include playing in both the Varsity match against Oxford & the Atlantic Cup Tournament against Oxford, Harvard & Yale.
* Lily Stratford - Treasurer * - Management at Murray Edwards College. - Played polo for 2 years, starting at CUPC. - Highlight was beating Oxford in beginners varsity in my first year playing. - Looking forward to having early exams this year so I can really get into the grass season!

Polo ponies are not actually ponies - they are full-sized horses 🐎
The Hurlingham Polo Association restricted a pony's height to 14.2 hands (56.8 inches) until 1919. Today, most polo ponies stand around 15 hands (60 in), although it is not unusual to see a horse over 16 hands (64 in).
