Did you know...Today we're celebrating our 484th birthday! It was #onthisday in 1534 that Henry VIII granted us letters patent, allowing the Press to print 'all manner of books'. The Press's history is revealed in all its variety and antiquity through our archive. Minute books, photographs, building plans, financial records, printing ledgers, art work, press cuttings, and author correspondence files give evidence of the people and changing technologies of the Press - these records are all held at Cambridge University Library. My son needed the Latin I workbook 4th edition for a class. It is out of stock or back ordered everywhere. When I did find it new, it was $300.

So, I emailed Cambridge Sunday night. To my great surprise, I received an immediate response. Michelle sympathized with my plight and promised to assist. Monday I received another email from Dieynaba saying she could not locate a book, but would print out a PDF and overnight it to me. It arrived this morning, and was even bound.

AMAZING customer service!!!

Nice place and lovely bar plus a lot more building work going on but a pleasant afternoon was spent watching the football

User

I am sufficiently dissatisfied with one of the Cambridge University press books to spend time on writing this....the book in question is"Ethics and science" by Briggle abd Mitcham. While i do consider its' content to be highly interesting and educational, the phrasing of the sentences is often convoluted and it significantly reduces the reading pleasure. It is not the terminology i perceived as being challenging but the manner in which the words had been used to construct the sentences. I might even go as far as to call it intentionally encumbered wording. Too bad...

User

For two months I' m trying to order books from cambridge university press online bookshop... I placed orders for three times... but nothing had happened. After two weeks my credit card was charged back. I wrote several letters to support, to find out what had happened with my orders, but I didn't recieve any answer. It seems that online bookshop simply doesn't work. But then, how I can order books?

Your ‘pride’ display will keep me from ever purchasing a bible from you.

Very disappointed to hear that you have given in to Chinese censorship demands. Do you not realise the damage you have done to your own reputation and that of the hallowed university of which you are a part? It is quite unbelievable. You are also cheating those people within China who are activists for freedom of speech, press and thought.

You should realise that without your principles of academic freedom, of true scholarship, you have nothing, are nothing.

User

Very disappointed for you to obey china communist to remove those articles and you should be ashamed of what you were done. This regime works against the value of human if not stop in time it will be disastrous to the whole world.

User

The decision of removing articles from China Quarterly is shameful. Have your editors ever heard of academic freedom? Freedom of speech? Freedom of expression? Known as the world's oldest publishing house and you are now helping censorship in China? What you have done is disgraceful. The Cambridge University Press's name is dragged through the mud here and you don't have to ask why.

P.S. I would have given zero star if I could.

So now the world's oldest publisher is self-censoring its product to maintain an access to Chinese market? Shame on you CUP!

User

Shameless online shopping experience. I have tried to purchase books from you twice and both times, but I get an error and my "order" is not found anywhere, but I still get charged for it. The first time was a couple of years ago and then today, I have the exact the same experience. I am actually quite surprised an organisation like this has not solved online commerce issues yet. I would not recommend attempting a purchase on the online store.

I call upon all who are published by Cambridge University Press (CUP) to withdraw from further co-operation with them until CUP (1) reinstates the articles withdrawn on behest of the Chinese Government and (2) puts in place a public policy to repeat this sort of thing from happening again. #FreeCUP

User

I am not shocking for the Cambridge University Press drops more than 300 articles upon china's request while most of the countries in the world refuse to recognize a country, Taiwan, as a country to meet china's requirements. It is all because you think china is big market or big manufacturing place where you can make money ONLY. It is not the first time and will not be the last time that human society to have a deal with the devil.

User

An insane organisation which leaks users' email due to poor management and incompetent staff!!!

User

A publisher that compiles to Chinese governemnt request to limite freedom of speech. You should be ashamed of that decisions.
