Cambridge University Royal Naval Unit Description

Cambridge University Royal Naval Unit (CURNU) offers members a unique insight into the Royal Navy /Armed Forces and University clubs or societies, CURNU pays its members for their attendance and support towards training. CURNU includes students from Cambridge University, the University of East Anglia, the University of Suffolk and Anglia Ruskin University.

With training evenings on a Wednesday, weekend activities and Easter /Summer deployments, members of CURNU will learn about navigation and seamanship, improve their ability to plan and lead, experience time abroad /at sea and enjoy adventurous training such as offshore sailing or climbing. All Sea-borne training is conducted on board our own fast patrol craft, HMS TRUMPETER, (based in Ipswich). The majority of training is complemented by civilian accredited qualifications from the RYA (Day Skipper, Yacht Master, etc) and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

Time at the Unit is also balanced against a healthy culture of social activities and formal dinners, as well as external visits to ships, historic locations and regular Armed Forces units i. e. RAF Wyton and Portsmouth Dockyard
