Canines & Friends

About Canines & Friends

I studied Dog Behaviour and Psychology, Cynology, and work towards a balanced and trusting inter-relationship between dog and owner.

Canines & Friends Description

When it comes to dog behaviour and psychology, No Force is my mantra. I work with the dog, and the dog owner to enable them to work towards a trusting and rewarding relationship. This trust does not come over night, it can be a long journey, which should be enjoyed, because every forward moving step will be a huge achievement.
I do home visits, but I am also happy to work via email or phone to address some behaviour problems.
I hold Dog Classes in Dumfries and the surounding area
At present I am in the middle of studying canine behaviour management. In my mind one can never know enough.
My background is Person-Centred Counselling, I am using the same approach with the dogs I am working with, so it is very much like Dog-Centred Therapy.

I am in the process of working on adding some new and different services. I had time to rethink what I will be offering and came to the conclusion, that I will no longer hold any puppy / dog classes. I have been messed about to often and had to cancel at the last minute. Puppy classes are fantastic for socialisation in the very early stages of a dogs life, but it is not a place to address ingrained behaviour problems. I am stuck on helping and unravelling unruly and often v...ery upsetting behaviour problems, hence the reason for addressing specific problems with a tailor made programme. This includes multi dog households, rehabilitating rescue dogs, working with PTSD, aggression towards humans or dogs and so on.
I should have everything in place by the end of February . As always I am busy and at the moment I am also in the process of updating my first aid knowledge and certification.
I am also a firm believer that we are what we eat, the same goes for dogs, so again addressing these issues will be at the for front for me.
For any further information please feel free to get in touch.

Rescuing a dog is such an incredible experience, but as I always say, it is not for the fainthearted. Yes it is important to get these dogs out of kennels and rescue centres, but please think twice if you feel that you can not give them the time and conviction they really need. You can be lucky of course and it will all go plain sailing , and that is just great.
Working with rescue dogs, working with PTSD and working with severe behavioural problems, and rehabilitating dogs ...in general is what I love doing most.
So if you are trying to deal with behavioural issues way beyond anything you experienced, please get in touch and we can see how I might be of help.

If a chicken can do it, what is stopping you doing it with your dogs :-)

Good evening everyone.. I am just checking in to see if you survived the storms so far without too much stress. . It is frightening how much destruction there is all over the country. I hope you are all safe . I live beside the see and the winds are howling, something I grew up with when I lived in Husum (Germany) right by the NorthSea, so it is not something which bothers me. Hoping that the dikes will hold and do not break was a very different matter though. I feel for all the people who have suffered so much during the storms and hope that they are able to pick up the pieces and carry on.My thoughts are with them.
