On the 16th of April one of our fitness instructors Susan Wilson is going to attempt to cycle 100 miles on a spin bike in the reception area at Carnegie Leisure Centre.
The charity cycle is to raise funds for Aaron, an 11 year old boy who attends Mclean Primary School. He was recently on the front cover of the Dunfermline Press so you might’ve read about him.
Aaron has Neuroblastoma for the second time after 5 years in remission. As it’s the second time there is no set trea...tment path. He is on a trial at the moment and the next one he is suitable for is in America which will cost £300,000.
We would be very grateful if you could pop in and show your support by making a donation.
If you can't make it to the Carnegie you can donate via text, send “AARON” followed by any whole amount up to £20 to 70085. This will cost your donation plus your standard network charge. It won’t matter if you leave a space be-fore the number, if you include a ‘£’ sign or whether you use upper or lower case.

Last night I tried the Tae-Robic class out, what a wee gem of a find. The instructor Bartek was very warm and engaging with the class, and I felt very relaxed when I left. I'm looking forward to the next class.

User

I use the swimming pool and gym on a regular basis. The facilities are clean and the staff are very friendly. Its a bit disappointing how long the baby pool has been out of use. I usually take my two girls swimming by myself and as they cant touch the bottom of the big pool yet its not been possible to go. Hopefully the baby pool will be back up and running again soon. The staff at the soft play are great and always remember my daughters names.

User

I give this place 4 stars.

Has all i need.

My only pick is the drains in the changing rooms & toilets need looked at the smell is very bad.

Sorry but its true.

1 more thing a boxing or mma room with all the gear would be Awesome.

A good workout on the bags helps.

User

Had a fab time with my family in the pool, was surprised when our time was up after 45 mins, the children felt as though we'd just got there. Great fun while we were there though, the inflatable fun-run is fab for the kids x

User

The staff try very hard and seem smiley and happy to help and engage.

It appears the build quality and maintenance let them down as services are often withdrawn at short notice.

The health suite always has something going wrong or the steam room is just a room- especially in the mornings.

And why does it not open until 0915 on a Sunday?

A stronger grip on faults and a few wee tweaks can improve the visitors experience.

How about a txt alerts service on services down.

If that already exists I've seen no sign of it.

User

The biggest problem at the swimming pool is the showers. Water as hot as a boiled kettle when first put on. If nothing is done about this soon a child or young infant could be scalded. I reported this before with no improvement. A notice pinned up stating HOT WATER ECT . Not good enough. Kids don't read notices. Could finish up with somebody taking them to court for injuries. Don't normally do reviews but so upset today when there with my great grandchildren the youngest only 2 years old. Had to keep him out until it cooled and by that time switches off again. Surely not that difficult to reset the thermostat.

User

I've used the facilities on & off since the Carnegie was re-opened, staff have always been friendly, professional & approachable. The Carnegie has everything you could need in a leisure centre, but the fact it was rushed to open & never properly finished, the state of things then and now, continues to be a embrassment to the staff I'm sure & public who use the Carnegie. So when or if, will the Carnegie actually be completed to the standard it shouldve been done?

Fife Cultural Trust what say you?

User

I went to ask about summer camps, said I had a few questions as my son has some additional needs. Without checking I was told there were no spaces on any of the weeks for him, so he can't go. Then they turned to fiddle with their phone. There's no update anywhere to say the camps are full which would be helpful to have known. However the attitude was less than welcoming, gave the impression additional needs is an automatic barrier and showed a rudeness I've not experienced with any other staff. My sons lessons in the centre are going really well and other staff have always been polite and helpful. Very disappointing.

User

Generally a good pool, however I've just been up to try to get a swim and although the timetable says there should be lane swimming at 3pm, the pool was still full of kids and I was informed that lane swimming isn't till 4. I do understand that the summer is always busy with kids - and that's as it should be. But others want to use the pool too - which is why the timetable should be accurate!

User

Today I went to use the creche and gym and had a horrible experience with the two woman at the front desk! Both their attitude were disgusting towards me, they had no time to answer questions and were in no way willing to help. I missed booking my daughters swimming lessons by 1 day and the person I spoke to was not willing to do anything to get them rebooked until A manger came over and said there was space so just to book her in. The other woman I spoke to when I was paying for the gym spoke down to like a child because I didn't show her my card before asking for the gym and creche (I forgot with having my hands full with 1 year old twins). There was a lot more to it but I left very upset and did not get a chance to ask about a class I wanted to join and an induction for the climbing wall because I was so upset and a little bit in shock at the way I was spoke to twice by two different people. After talking to a few people about this I have heard that others have had the same problem! Possibly a formal complaint is in need.

User

The pool timetable is never up to date. Laned swimming is sometimes a lottery and during school holidays it's worse. All I want to know is when laned swimming is on for the public. Surely it's not too much to ask!

User

My other half went to join the gym this morning only to be told he had to fill in forms and such when it states online that this can be done at the reception but can be done at home to save time (but we don't own a printer). But not only that, she assumed he wanted to immediately sign up for the direct debit without questioning around it and just spoke to him like dirt. A similar instance happened to me earlier this year, probably by the same woman (heather) when I signed up for the full membership, assuming I didn't have the forms for it. Why does she need to speak to people in this disgusting manner?

User

It's great but am a swimmer and we have one person in the pool that spoils it for lot folk see few folk not coming back due this person and staff don't have any control sad one person can spoil it

User

Went to the pool today with my little boy and when I got there , I realised I had forgotten his swimming float. I asked if we could borrow some of the arm bands. I was told no even though there was a big box of them not being used. The reason I was given was because they were for swimming

Lessons only...and that we would damage there were only 6 people including us using the pool! Too many jobs worths work here. #Toddletpooltoopenbeforechristmas.

User

We hired studio 3 for a few years which ended up costing £50 per hour (with a 15% discount cause we are a charity) so every night we trained cost £84 for 2 hours. The floor was always filthy as there are always classes in before us using outdoor footwear which meant we had to clean it ourselves before we could start to train. We asked every week for someone to clean it but it meant waiting to find a member of staff and delay our classes. The hall was always freezing cold and the air con seemed to be on continually even in the winter.

Not sure what type of classes they are trying to attract to their centre but with hire costs like those and poor facilities it's certainly not a martial arts club.

This is now the 3rd time I have went to use the "public pool" only to be told no you can't go today was technical difficulties!!!!!!!!! Dropped my daughter off as she was meeting friends for a swim. They met at 11:30 and planned to spend at least an hour in the pool. They chose green lockers & bands. After barely 15 minutes in the pool, the alarm sounded for the end of the session for green bands.

User

This is now the 3rd time I have went to use the "public pool" only to be told no you can't go today was technical difficulties!!!!!!!!! I had telephoned prior to going and was assured the pool was open!! Absolute joke! I don't normally bother but having 2 disappointed children is not good fun! I was on the other hand given a family swim pass but I will not be going back in a hurry I can assure you!!!!

User

The bouncy castle collapsed on my daughter today. Could have been very dangerous I managed to get her out in time. Once scared little girl who the couldn't enjoy the party she had been invited too. Appropriate safety measures clearly not in place here.

User

Kids swimming lessons are a complete and utter farce! My oldest son has been going since he was 3 and a half and now just turned 6 the swimming teacher doesn't have a clue, one week taking an armband off of him next week putting another back on!! And failing to move him up on stuff he never tested and I know he can do!! Complete and utter waste of time and money!!! And my other son not getting moved up even though he is bored out of his mind as all the kids in his class muck about while he is the smallest but fastest swimmer there!! Even though I know of loads of kids under 5 been moved up in the same swimming centre! !! The quicker I can get them out the better!!! Lost a loyal customer!! Oh and the lovely personal touch of not even writing the date or the kids names on their certificates puts the cherry on top of the cake!! Take a bow Carnegie! !!!

User

Dropped my daughter off as she was meeting friends for a swim. They met at 11:30 and planned to spend at least an hour in the pool. They chose green lockers & bands. After barely 15 minutes in the pool, the alarm sounded for the end of the session for green bands.

They were not informed at reception what colour of bands/lockers to choose & despite poolside staff watching them arrive into the pool at 11:45, they were still told to leave as it was the end of their session.

I feel that communication needs to improve and for it to be much clearer re session times.
