Carolyn Henry Photography Description

They say a picture speaks a thousand words. And similarly, a photograph can capture a moment in time - it is a snapshot which can represent many things to many people and they are extremely emotive. Photographs make people laugh and cry and have the power to transport you right back to the moment they were taken. Carolyn Henry Photography aims to provide you with a set of images that do this. Big or small, all events are important - be it a wedding, christening or naming ceremony, special birthday or anniversary or even a school trip - and my aim is still the same - to provide you with a set of images that really celebrate your event.

Jim and Debbie were keen to keep their ceremony at the heart of their wedding pictures so opted for a small attendance just before, during and after their beautiful humanist ceremony. Debbie was slightly disappointed that they had made the decision to have the ceremony inside as the weather brightened up in the course of the morning. Having said that, I think we were all slightly relieved that was the case when 20 minutes in and during their handfasting the heavens opened and the rain beat down on the windows of Boclair House! Thankfully it cleared up in time for their photographs outside with family and friends. CHP x

In collaboration with Tartan Weddings, Carolyn Henry Photography, was absolutely delighted to be asked to photograph Jessica’s hen party here in Scotland. Jess invited her closest friends who committed to a journey from various states in the US to help her celebrate and enjoy some of the best Scotland has to offer! With a fully packed schedule the girls enjoyed Fascinator making, a ghost tour, Highland Games followed by a speedboat pub crawl courtesy of Loch Lomond Leisure and a gin making experience at Eden Mill Blendworks. Lots of miles covered, lots of laughter shared and even more memories made. CHP x #jesscantwaitetobebrooks

Adam and Sarah knew the moment they stepped inside Neidpath Castle that it was the perfect venue for their medieval themed wedding. The day dawned grey, misty and dreich but the clouds parted for their ceremony and the sun shone in time for guests to amass for speeches in the shadow of the castle. It was an absolute honour to share in their beautiful day and capture these memories for them. CHP x

Katy and David contacted me asking whether I would consider photographing their wedding reception - attended by close family and friends - just a year after they’d officially tied the knot ahead of the arrival of their gorgeous wee boy Jack - and I was delighted to! It was so lovely to watch them celebrate with family and friends at The Burgh Halls. CHP x

Loretta Marie Hair at The87Collective was invited down to London for a special Pulp Riot masterclass and came back to Edinburgh buzzing with ideas and lots of new techniques to try. With stunning braids, shine lines for days and colours that turn heads it was easy to photograph these wonderful colourful manes for a truly amazing Boss Lady! CHP x

In a day and age where selfies are commonplace, the technology means we can see our photos instantly and we are able to FaceTime family all over the world it is still wonderful when someone wants to have a special occasion photographed and do so as a gift. Audrey celebrated her 80th birthday surrounded by generations of family and a couple of close friends. It was so obvious that they are such a close family and all wanted her to have the most special day. CHP x

Baby Leo is not quite as new as some of my newborn babies of recent but it was lovely to see a real personality has formed in this wee boy already! This photoshoot was a gift and it was really lovely to be able to capture these memories for them to treasure...proving that photography session gift vouchers are a brilliant option if baby already has everything he or she needs! I spoke to someone today about the importance of photos in our lives and I realised that - though I am incredibly biased! - photographs and printed images are such a window into a moment in time. Printed photos of me and my sister as little girls are incredibly precious (and often equal parts hilarious - we did love a shell-suit!) and it's so important to stop, take a photo and, in my view, print it out. When I took Connor's pictures on his first birthday it started my journey with the Douglas family and I was so delighted when they contacted me to arrange a voucher for Keith's Mum Linda for her birthday. We had such a lovely time having a giggle and spotting the trains, throwing stones and shells, collecting sticks and sharing cuddles - and, most importantly, making memories. CHP x

This time last year I was waiting to hear from Jordyn that her little girl, Rylee Skye, had arrived! This precious little bundle of smiles, energy and stubbornness(!) turns one on Tuesday and it was so lovely seeing the little person she has become. I can't wait to share more smiles, cake and memories with this family. CHP x

Lauren and Rob are on a mission - and it’s a lovely important one that I’m completely in support of. They want to encourage kids away from their screens and out into the fresh air - doing the things that kids love; getting muddy, playing in the leaves and climbing trees - whilst learning basic bushcraft skills and how to treat the environment with kindness. Kids Gone Wild is growing in force and I’m so excited for them! CHP x

I can't quite believe that little Thomas is one! His smash and splash marks the end of a milestones journey with this family and I already know I'll miss seeing them at intervals in the year! Thankfully I know I'll be checking in with the boys at their nursery shoot later in 2019! For now though, thank you for letting me capture your memories of this wonderful fun filled year. CHP x

Family photoshoots are wonderful to be a part of - especially when you have seen a couple become a family, grow together and then have a child. It’s especially poignant when a photoshoot is gifted and then capturing the images becomes a gift by extension. This set of photographs will definitely make me smile for years to come. CHP x

Little baby Luke decided he would arrive a bit early but his smiles during his photoshoot - as he turned 13 weeks - were certainly worth the wait! It was lovely to see his mummy and daddy again and take these precious photos for them. CHP x

As part of my job I get to see a lot of Mums. I see brand new mummies; some who have finally seen the sun come out and a long awaited rainbow reach them. I see working mums juggling mum guilt with all of the trappings of nursery or school routine; my nursery portraits allowing them to see their children happy and confident despite what they might worry when they do the drop off. I see step mums finding their way - either binding families together or stepping into a role that ...fills them with excitement, trepidation and a worry about becoming a Disney villain! I see mums as they watch their - all grown up - little girls and little boys walk down the aisle; sometimes holding the hands of their grandchildren as tightly as they once held the bride's or groom's. I see grandmothers hearts expand as they open their arms wider to cuddle new members of their family. And I see wonderful strong women who might not be mums now, might have chosen not to be mummies or who might not be able, who are there, supporting and offering their love - unconditionally. You are all special, and you are all loved. Happy Mother's Day. CHP x

Dance me to the wedding now, dance me on and on...dance me to the end of love, dance me to the end of love. Sometimes it takes a little while to find your person and you’ve lived a little bit of life before you do, that said, I believe you find your person exactly when you are supposed to ♥️ CHP x

Family photoshoots have always been special to me - there is something so wonderful about being able to capture moments that might otherwise seem so ordinary or everyday. For Gemma and Jason the chance to have natural and none posed pictures was important; and to allow Harrison the run of the museum - because this is a moment in time they will forever remember. And me, well I forgot how much I loved pushing all the buttons in "the train room", I'll be sure to visit again soon to rectify this! CHP x

Ella is (nearly!) one! It seems like CHP has kicked off 2019 with plenty of cake smashes! And Ella's nap after her smash and splash shows just how it should be done - with so much fun and lots of giggles that just tired her out! CHP x
