Our most disappointing restaurant experience in Edinburgh so far and we go out a lot. My fish on mash (pretty unsofisticated) was far too salty and my wife's lamb dish was ok but still looking to understand why we paid so much for that. Wines were good but shockingly overpriced (£50 half a bottle). Too many waiters running around, noisy and very unromantic. In a word; unnecessarily pretentious and pompous.

Great food and service-an excellent dining experience

Castle Terrace is has an amazing prix fixe menu, we went for lunch, which means their 3-course special was available. It actually ended up being more like 5 courses when you include the two delicious amuse-bouche that came first. This was £30 per person.
There's also an 8 course menu that costs £80 per person, not sure if the price is the same for dinner.
It's probably worth getting here close to when they open for lunch, the place fills up, and the tables vary significantly in quality.

Memorable meal (Taster with wine). Each plate was better than the last. The sommelier was fantastic and paired the wines beautifully with each course. Staff could not have been more attentive and professional. Overall an exceptional evening.

Great appetizers, uninspired main dishes, OK desserts. The service was top notch but overall we weren't very impressed with the food. We had the steak and lamb dishes - both were average. Crab ravioli and scallop appetizers were terrific though. It was very loud in the restaurant as well, which hindered our ability to enjoy the meal.

Great value, great food, and great service. Nothing to fault

Anyone who thinks that it's not possible to have beautifully crafted food matched with stunning wine whilst enjoying a relaxing environment has not visited Castle Terrace. Being lucky enough to have eaten out in many top restaurant I still feel blessed to be able to return to Castle Terrace as a local restaurant. In my opinion the food perfectly balances fine dining French with contemporary influences. Whilst some may prefer a more formal setting, to my mind, times have moved on and just like you should feel comfortable not wearing a tie at dinner, you should feel comfortable being able to enjoy fine food without feeling like the custodians are frowning or sneering at questions about the food, wine or even cutlery 😀 I look forward to coming back many years in the future

We had an awkward and funny experience here. We came here reading all the reviews of how amazing the food was after walking all day in the city.

We immediately began to be pampered by the staff and I knew this was a place to nice for us. We sat down and were presented with the specials and didn't see an option to order individual items and discovered this was a price fix minimum 3 course dinner starting at 70£. Our guests could not afford this so we had to apologize to the manager and discreetly leave.

We finished our beers at the bar and no one made us feel bad for what happened. It was the opposite. They were all super nice to us.

At the bar we watched the bartender make drinks. He was passionate and artistic.

I will come back here when it is just the wife and myself and we are more prepared.

Good food. Good atmosphere. But expensive. It's recently lost a Michelin star and I think I can understand why. It's great, but I've had it before. It's not standing out now. Several of the appetiser seem to have been around for a while. Same with the petit fours.
