We went to this lovely tavern yesterday the food was amazing the best mushroom soup I’ve ever tasted.Staff very friendly will definitely be back😊
We found this amazing tavern by chance yesterday and stopped in for lunch. It was absolute perfection! Plus you really can’t beat 3 courses for £9.95 (sizeable ones at that)!
It was heartwarming as a vegan that nothing was too much trouble to cater for my needs, even pulling a main course from the main menu for me.
Staff were amazing and couldn’t have been more pleasant or helpful.
We’ll definitely be back!
Such a little gem. After walking in the cold in the nearby castle, this is exactly what you need. The culin skink soup is delicious and service is excellent
Stopped off during a wee motorbike run.
Had an excellent meal
Maybe off the beaten track for some but its worth a visit
Our 2nd visit for an anniversary celebration as we enjoyed it so much the 1st time. Lovely food, lovely cosy atmosphere, very friendly and helpful staff. Thoroughly recommend.
Love this place. Always had a good meal. Just had a 3 course meal for two, with drinks followed by coffee and mince pies for under £50. I know one of the waitresses can be a bit dour but the lad that served us this evening was very pleasant. Will be back again.
Love it here. Been a couple of times and the food, staff and excellent selection of orkney craft beers is fantastic. Also dog friendly which is a massive bonus.
Its lovely set out friendly staff and food is one of best food had in ages its lush i was so full but managed it as didnt want to leave any and wow portions and good and kids meals big too and play park too really good and all the faclities nice and b bck all food is homemade and really really to die for
Had a lovely meal here last night- food excellent and service excellent . Staff very pleasant and helpful. Will definitely be back when I am up this way again. By the way seen the advertisement in a booklet for Nairn Tourism and thought we would drive up and see what Cawdor Tavern was like and we were not disappointed
Great staff and great food!
Great food, great service, great atmosphere.
Been here a few times & never been disappointed.
Would definitely recommend this place
After almost two weeks of traveling around the UK, this was by far the best meal!!!
Absolutely without fault.
Welcoming staff, excellent drinks and menu choices (even for the kids!), and simply superb food.
The haggis, which I ordered as a side portion, is an absolute must - generous, hearty, and delicious.
This was our second visit and we will most certainly be back for a third (probably many more) in the near future.
Stumbled on this tavern after rain stopped us visiting Culloden. Nice lunch, shared a sarnie with bowl of chips. So nice we went on off chance Saturday evening after a 200 Mile drive to West coast and back. Hadn't booked but we got a table. Fish and chips were lovely, battery crispy and not too thick. Nice place, good food and service. Staff pleasant.
Generally speaking we like Cawdor Tavern for lunch - generally from the Starter Menu, of Soup of the Day. We have had a few evening meals and I have enjoyed my selection. Last Sunday we decided to have a Main and were disappointed! What was described on the Menu as "Steak in Ale Pie was in fact a ladle of Beef Stew with a slab of desperately baked puff pastry. It wasn't tasty either!
Staff are always friendly and helpful.
Advertised a roast with mixed veg. More Cordon Bleu style meat on top of a teaspoon of cabbage, one floret of broccoli. 1 new potato and 2 very small roast potatoes. The children's meals had more on them and the price didn't match the service. 20 minutes sat waiting for a waitress to take the order and a further 25 for the meal. Very disappointed won't be returning
The staff are pleasant and well mannered. We got our drinks swiftly however, we then waited nearly 40 minutes for our food order to be taken. We both ordered the same thing (Steak and Haggis Burger) and this took an additional 25-30 minutes to come out. My burger was pink in the middle and, being pregnant, I wasn't sure I should eat it. However, I was so hungry i didn't want to send it back and wait even longer for it to be cooked for longer. I just ate the chips and coleslaw (which were yummy). The burger wasn't particularly "haggisy" according to my partner. I feel the meal was a little overpriced: over £30 for two burgers and two drinks...considering we had to wait for ages.
There was no culin skink soup, couldn't have extra mushrooms with main course as there wasn't enough mushrooms for steaks for the night. Venison Burger was dry and also trio of puddings for starter was also dry. Drinks over prices to.
I posted this review on Trip Advisor after a visit in September :
"A group of friends visited on a Saturday afternoon for a few drinks to celebrate a birthday and entered the restaurant rather than the bar in error and were met with a frosty state and unhelpful tone by the waitress. Perhaps it was due to us being in walking "gear". The waitress acidly told us that if we wanted a drink to go to the bar and could not get us of the restaurant quick enough. PS restaurant was empty so you would have thought they they would want the business!!! Would not return due to waitress' attitude."
However, the owner responded that my comments were over the top and I am unable to respond to his via Trip Advisor so thought I would use this forum to add that my review is honest and my opinion - it is not over the top but it is truthful of the way in which we were spoken. I think that the owner needs to accept constructive comments even if they are negative and to accuse the writer of being harsh is unfair. If I was intending to be harsh I would have mentioned the price of a pint on peroni which was the same as that in a 4 star hotel or trendy city centre pub and not that of a local village pub. Would not recommend
