Clare College Music Society is one of the biggest and one of the most highly regarded music societies in Cambridge. It not only gives the students from Clare but also from the university as a whole the opportunity to take part in top class music making.
Weekly recitals are held in the College Chapel every Monday lunchtime at 1. 15pm and are attended and enjoyed by fellows, students and members of the public alike. CCMS also stages orchestral and choral concerts in West Road Concert Hall every term, with recent performances including major works such as Tippett’s ‘A Child of Our Time’, Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto and Dvorak’s Ninth Symphony. A tradition of CCMS opera productions has just reached its seventh year with performances of Milhaud’s ‘Le Pauvre Matelot’ in 2013. All Clare musicians are offered the opportunity to perform in front of an audience through the Clare Player’s concert series, and for those that prefer a more contemporary style of music, the Cellars Sessions held in Clare Cellars provide an eclectic mix of music including jazz, folk and a capella vocal music.
Due to its jam-packed schedule, CCMS is one of the most exciting societies to be a part of in Cambridge. This is of course also helped by its much envied social calendar of post-concert parties and the infamous CCMS Dinner is not one to miss!
