š¶ Hills Dog Food Recalled š¶
Although we do not sell Hills Prescription diet from our practices we have been made aware that there is currently a nationwide recall on some types of wet canned dog food due to higher levels of vitamin D being found in a certain batch of food made with ingredients from a new supplier in the USA after an American dog became ill. We realise that some of our clients will buy Hills diets online and from bigger pet food stores so would like to ask yo...u to read the information in the following link if you feed any of the following WET foods. The affected foods are Hills Diabetic W/D cans, Hills Digestive Care I/D cans, Hills Food Sensitivities Z/D , Hills Canine Adult advances chicken and Hills Canine Mature Adult active Longevity. If you feed any of these foods please check the BB date and batch numbers agains those listed in the following information from Hills. We would like to emphasise that it is only these specific foods that are affected. There are NO problems with the dry diets or with any of the cat foods. If you have any worries about your petās health please contact the surgery.

A lot of conditions in our older cats can present in a similar way but one of the first things we check for is chronic kidney disease.
Chronic Kidney Disease is different from Acute which can be caused by them licking anti freeze.
It can creep up on them and it can be difficult to spot at home as it can be so gradual.
... If you have an older cat and you are concerned get in touch for more information.

When we see our cat losing weight and eating lots we can often think the worst. But there can be various reasons for this and one of the most commonly diagnosed conditions in older cats is Hyperthyroidism.
Hyperthyroidism is when their thyroid gland goes into overdrive which in turn increases their metabolic rate.
This condition is often treated by giving tablets and monitoring but can also be treated by surgery or refferal for a more advanced procedure called radioactive i...odine.
If you're at all concerned that your cat may be showing the signs of hyperthyroidism please get in touch!

Diabetes in cats isn't quite the same as in people but it is fairly common for our older cats to develop. The earlier it can be diagnosed the best chance we have at stabilising your cat quickly. An undiagnosed diabetic can become life threatening very quickly.
We've attached a poster which summarises some of the key signs which could mean your cat is developing diabetes mellitus.
Happy New Year! Wishing you and your pets a healthy and happy 2019!
During this festive period we, at Champion Vets are running a Senior Cat Festive Awareness Offer. As our cats get older often it can be quite difficult to spot symptoms of illness as they start to sleep more anyway, even more so in the cold weather of winter.
Thatās why we are offering free urine samples for all cats over 8 years old and 10% of Wellpet blood test screens when booked with a nurse. These tests can check for many of the conditions that our older cats are prone... to.
The conditions weāre most interested in checking for are: Chronic Kidney Disease, Hyperthyroidism (an over active thyroid), Diabetes Mellitus and Osteoarthritis.
There are many others but these are some of the most common.
We are also offering a 10% discount on a vet consultation which follows on from one of these tests from our veterinary nurses.
We are running this offer in all 4 of our surgeries from the 10th December until the 31st January so donāt miss out
