Chanix Millinery

I lovveeee this commissioned design 😍 my client had a gorgeous dress made from silk, silk chiffon and gorgeous velvet and so I made a gorgeous flower from the scraps using french flower making tools and using my own flower pattern. She also had some very blingy shoes and bag so I added some subtle bling to the feather tips 💕

Only 6 days till I move house and I'm making good use of been surrounded by moving boxes by making a big work desk for myself 😂 I have been working on this hat for months. It was originally pink but I grew so fed up of looking at it and so today I dyed it rose gold. Still got a few bits and bobs to add to it! But here is its progress so far :) I'm still pondering with the idea of introducing hats to my range because of the time and expense of making them however if it is something you would like to see more of at Chanix Millinery then please comment and let me know and that may sway my decision haha xxx

I get asked all the time how I got into Millinery!
When I lived in Saudi Arabia I was invited to attend a race day event organised by the British Embassy. Knowing I was going to be around Alot of posh folk I spent a small fortune on this gorgeous hatinator! And I felt amazing wearing it! When I moved back to Scotland I held it all the way in the plane for a rude man to then bash into me rudely and squash it 😢 I then had the idea to... try make my own as I had lots of weddings that year and since I had experienced the luxury of having an expensive hatinator I wanted to feel that amazing again but not at that price 😂 so I started my business with the aim to make affordable gorgeous head pieces so more people can feel confident and amazing like I did that day. It did however take me half a year to set up a Facebook page and to get the guts to start selling to people I didn't know. I was convinced only my mum would be my only follower haha however word got out to my old colleagues at the Children's Ward in Kirkcaldy and they became my first clients (after my mum off course) and that's how it took off! What I didn't account for is the expense and time that goes into making head pieces. One piece of equipment you need for making hatinators is called a hatblock and a decent one of these costs upwards of £150 😅 and so my prices are £45-£290 for commissioned orders which is still much cheaper than most Milliners however it makes it difficult to reach people like myself on a nurses salary who don't want to budget for that amount when attending race days and weddings etc! and so along came the idea of bringing out a hire range! Many of these are items I made for myself and are sample pieces. I am planning to add more designs so keep checking this folder :)

I get asked all the time how long it takes to make a head piece! I won't bore you with the details but the beading alone for this one took me just under 4 hours 😅 The picture of the door and chair is me trying to stretch my felt out to give me more to work with 😂

Just had these crazy ladies in for their Grand National consultation and seeing the other ones on Sunday. Love how much fun and creativeness they bring and how they always add their own flare to their designs! This will be the 4th year of me making Arlene's head piece!

This is one of my favourite designs! Mainly because the hat block I use to make it was made by my Step Dad! Love the colour combination of this one! It matches my client's dress perfectly 👒💕

Urgh nothing more frustrating when you make a beautiful piece and you just can't do it justice in the photos! This looks AMAZING on! I was going to have it as a stock item but my mum has nabbed it for the next event she goes to as it goes gorgeous with one of her peach dresses! so I'm just gonna keep hold of it the now and use it as a rental piece! This gorgeous Parasisal fascinator is trimmed with hand made silk flowers and hand made feather mount! It was originally a feather mount on its own but I took it apart and added in some goose nagoire feathers to make it thicker 💕

Rachel was absolutely brilliant! She catered for four people for my sister's wedding, ensuring each facinator was different and matched each dress perfectly. She was even able to make my mum a small facinator for at night for after she took off her hattenator at short notice! Rachel also took apart an old bouquet and added in new feathers and flowers making it look amazing and fresh again! Nothing was a hassle for her! She even used the spare flowers from the bouquet to make my sister a flower head band veil for her hen doo! Everything Rachel makes is beautiful no doubt about that! She was so accomadating and helpful at every appointment - She even sent out feathers to ensure they would match the girls dresses! Amazing service and very talented girl!

Rachael made me 2 fascinators this year for weddings and both of them were amazing! I was so happy with them, she is very talented! Everyone was commenting on them both at the weddings. She matched them perfectly with my outfits. Cannot recommend her enough! Thank you xx
