About Chaophraya

Escape the city for a Thai dining experience | lunch, dinner, cocktails, cooking classes, celebrations & corporate events.

Chaophraya Description

Initially established in Leeds in 2004, Chaophraya can now be found in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Sheffield, Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham.

Chaophraya (pronounced Chao-pi-ya) takes its name from the main waterway in Thailand. In ancient times this river breathed life into the families who lived along its banks. Today the river is still regarded as part of the essence of Thailand, which is where we take our inspiration.

Our chef director Kim Kaewkraikhot working closely with our Head Chef, Yiam Dokpudsha to design an unique and interesting menu featuring the best dishes from Thailand. Our motto is "Ow Jai Sai" which translates as "from the heart". We feel proud of our authentic and creative food, always selecting the freshest ingredients.

We hope to see you soon!

Hello Sunshine ☀️ Who’s ready for breakfast or lunch on our beautiful terrace today?

User

We went for dinner as a treat and food was absolutely amazing. The staff were very attentive and to top it all we had a magician to entertain us between course Cannot wait to return highly recommend

User

This was our 3 time at Chaophraya Edinburgh and each time our request for a table in the glass box was met (always a stunning view to be had especially when the sun is shining). Each visit has been a fantastic experience with the staff always helpful, friendly and attentive. We also had great service when one of our sons ordered sticky toffee pudding that did not come at the same time as my husband's desert but straight away our lovely waiter said the sticky toffee pudding was on them without us even complaining.

User

There for my 1st time. It certainly won't be my last. Great food, service and staff. A very nice relaxed lunch with lovely views over to Fife 1 way and the castle in the opposite direction. There steamed dumpling starter was so good that I had another portion instead of a sweet.

User

Second time here and the food was stunning. Service was brilliant. They told my sister they weren’t happy with the quality of the beef for her main so asked if she was ok to change. Most places would have just served it up and hoped for the best. Would highly recommend

User

Lovely roof top restaurant with the castle in the background. If you’re booking a table I strongly recommend you ask for a castle view table. Especially on a sunny day. Absolutely perfect for any occasion.

User

Had a fantastic time the food was amazing and the staff were so nice, place is relaxing and did not feel rushed x so thanks to my daughter Ashley for taking me and her nana x I will definitely be back

User

Great food, great wine, great service, great surroundings, great views - it’s just great!!!

Go.

User

Fantastic food! Best red curry I have had so far! Stunning views of the castle and sea! Welcoming and friendly service. Highly recommend the Spanish white wine choice. It was a perfect way to end our trip in beautiful Edinburgh.

User

Celebrated my Birthday with my Husband and Daughter and it was amazing. Could not fault it....food, service and staff were excellent, they even brought a slice of very elabarately dressed chocolate cake with a lit candle with happy birthday written in chocolate dust...just beautiful. Will definitely return. The negative was our starter for 2 was £20 quite expensive, however it was a special night so we enjoyed it x

User

Amazing place. Sat on the terrace and had a great lunch. Best pad Thai ever. Friendly staff made it all the better

User

Very good. I can't say why I've not give 5 stars. It was very good. We'll go back to try again.

User

The food was excellent, staff was very friendly however a bit slow on the service... Overall the experience and view was great...

User

Had the tapas set menu which was amazing, despite the hour wait we had in between our starter and main course. Line booking system is good however had advised we were there to celebrate mum's birthday but no acknowledgment of this.

User

Excellent service and food but wallet a bit lighter and eating toast at home. For me personally the portions are too small. You’re being well compensated with prices so a few more pieces of lamb/chicken would be appreciated 👍🏻

User

Brilliant food. We had one of the platters too start which was amazing then I had the lamb massaman curry which was very yummy indeed. Service was very good and attentive. We were in the glass house part of the restaurant so had amazing views of the city although it would have been better if the air conditioning was working better or they opened a window as we were all slowing cooking ourselves. Would go again tho

User

Had to wait one hour for our main course to arrive and we were placed next to the toilets which I could smell every time the glass door opened. The staff apologised for our wait but we were so cramped and felt claustrophobic at that particular table. Love the food though but the next time will make sure of a better table when booking.

User

Ordered a soup and it just tasted like sour coconut milk with a bit of chilli oil drizzled on top (I've been to Thailand twice so I know what a good soup is!) Bad service from the waiting staff also; had to go up to the front desk to get the bill in the end. Lady at the front desk was friendly though and the view was pretty.

User

Good looking restaurant .Great location and views .Food however was not up to the standard of our usual Thai restaurant.I had the massaman lamb curry which was tasteless and mostly potato.2 pieces of lamb fillet approximately 1 inch square .Not worth £16.99

The ladies toilet is very cramped and the lock on the middle cubicle was faulty and my friend had to get her foot under the door to pull it open

I’ve wanted to go here for sometime but won’t be back

User

Worst meal, chicken satay was bits of gristle, green curry was what appeared to be pre-cooked bland breast of chicken with a thin sauce poured over the top. It ranks as the worst meal I've ever had.
