Christ Church Morningside Description

You are very welcome to Christ Church Morningside, Edinburgh. We are set in the midst of a lively area on the south side of the city centre, with a door open to seekers, visitors and members, and to engagement with and in the local community and wider world.

We are part of the Anglican and Porvoo Communions, and also welcome people from all Christian traditions and none.

If you want to find out more about being married or having your child baptised here, we would love to hear from you.

Christ Church has services throughout the week in addition to the main sung eucharist at 10am. Our sunday evening services range from sung Compline to the Creative space service. Details about the services are below:

Sunday Evenings at 6. 00pm

All services last between 30-40 minutes and are held in the Church Centre, except where indicated

First Sunday - Creative Space
a reflective service of readings, silence, prayer and music

Second Sunday - Worship in the style of Taize
a service of gently repeated chants and silence based on the worship of the Taize community, an ecumenical monastic order with a strong devotion to peace and justice through prayer and meditation.

Third Sunday - Open Table
an informal communion service using services from the Iona Community and other similar resources

Fourth Sunday - Sung Compline
a candlelit gently chanted service with psalms, readings and prayers Compline (night prayer)is the final service of the day in the Christian tradition and

Fifth Sunday – Choral Evensong (in church)
Evensong is one of the more traditional of our Sunday evening services and comes from the 1929 Scottish Book of Common Prayer. It is based on the service of Evening Prayer which Archbishop Cranmer wrote for the Church of England following the Reformation. Cranmer combined the monastic offices of Vespers and Compline to produce this masterpiece of Tudor liturgy.
