Today we celebrate the launch of Christ’s College Choir’s new album As A Seed Bursts Forth, devoted to choral music by Christ’s alumna Annabel McLauchlan Rooney (m. 1991). We are delighted to be marking the 40th anniversary of the admission of women to the College with this release, which is also Regent Record’s first ever release debuting the works of a female composer. Regent Records commented “Annabel Rooney writes beautifully crafted and imaginative works in an expressive modern English style, setting traditional texts in an illuminating, colourful, and creative way; a blossoming talent and an original voice.”
Alumni can look forward to learning more about Annabel in the forthcoming edition of Pieces Magazine.

Members of the College Choir were on the roof of the Great Gate this morning for Ascenion Day. Wonderful singing and a beautiful morning!

Since being involved in University Radio whilst at Christ’s, our alumnus Chris Mason (m. 1998) has gone on to become a BBC political correspondents. He hosts Brexitcast, the very popular, funny, behind-the-scenes guide to Brexit alongside fellow BBC political correspondents Laura Kuenssberg, Katya Adler, and Adam Fleming. The Guardian calls the podcast “a revelation,” offering “impartial analysis about what has been going on in Westminster and Brussels, with none of the formality and pomposity that usually comes with the topic.” Chris Mason #brexitcast

In a thrilling end to the Varsity T20 match (20 overs a side) at Fenner's on Friday 17 May, Cambridge beat Oxford on the very last ball of the game. Cambridge's best bowler was Christ' student James Vitali (MPhil International Relations & Politics) with 3 for 17, and James also hit the winning run. https://cambridgeuniversity.play-cricket. com/…/resu…/4050391
The team are looking forward to going to The 50-over Varsity Match 1-0 up, at Lord's on Tuesday 28 May. Cambridge University Cricket Club

The Japanese Ensemble of Saxony visited Cambridge back in February this year, and kindly gave a recital here at Christ’s. Masako Furuta (mezzo-soprano), Yuri Matsuzaki (flute) and Mariko Mitsuyu (piano) performed Schubert’s Treue Liebe, Reinecke’s Flute Sonata and music composed by Christ’s Fellow, Professor John Wilson.
You can watch the concert here on You Tube by following the link. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1GyvONq _ZW88e3gQPkkbZg

Don’t forget that Christ’s College Music Society @christsmusic will be putting on a short 30-minute concert in the Chapel at 3.30pm every Saturday until 9th June, with free squash and biscuits. A perfect, calming break from work during this busy, exam period. Student welfare is so important, and it’s great to see Christ’s students looking after each other in this way. This afternoon’s concert will be singing with Laura Dunkling.

Congratulations to Christ’s Fellow, Dr Duncan Bell, who is giving the keynote lecture – entitled "Liberalism and Settler Colonialism" – at the Japanese Association for Political Thought conference in Tokyo this Saturday. This follows the recent publication of his edited volume, "Empire, Race and Global Justice."

Milton’s Mulberry still growing strong! Amazing to see the difference between these two photos taken about 120 years apart. #throwbackthursday
