The Church of Scotland is one of Scotland's largest charities and most active voluntary organisations. We have 400, 000 members, with more regularly involved in local congregations and our work.

Within the organisation, we have around 850 ministers serving in parishes and chaplaincies, supported by professional and administrative staff. Most of our parishes are in Scotland, but there are also congregations in England, across Europe and in the rest of the world, where we also work with many partner churches.

The Church of Scotland works with communities worldwide. At the heart of our work to achieve these aims is one of the largest organisations in Scotland that has a pivotal role in Scottish society and indeed religion throughout the world.

"As Christians, we assert the importance of offering welcome to the stranger and caring for the vulnerable, whoever they are.
“Many of our churches support those who have suffered hardship because of the hostile environment.”

“We are happy to launch our new animation for the Go For It fund and hope this short video will help introduce Go For It to those less familiar with the fund.
“This video is designed help inspire churches to see what is possible to enable them to reach out and make a difference to both their congregation and the local community.”

A teenage asylum seeker who fears he will be killed if he is deported to Pakistan has excelled in his exams.
Somer Umeed Bakhsh overcame the stress and trauma of living with uncertainty to get six As and a B in his National 5 exams.
The 15-year-old, who aspires to be an astrophysicist, is a pupil at Springburn Academy in Glasgow.
... Now in fifth year at school, Somer got As in Chemistry, Physics, Maths, English, History, Music and a B in Design and Manufacture.
His remarkable achievement under trying circumstances has been recognised by Scotland’s Education Secretary, John Swinney.
Somer, a member of Possilpark Parish Church in Glasgow, said: "I'm extremely pleased by my exam results.
"I want to thank my primary school teachers who provided me with a strong foundation and my secondary school teachers who put in the hard work and taught me.
"I am also very thankful for my parents who, despite the stressful situation, always encouraged and supported me.
"Above all, I want to thank God who helped me to stay focused on my studies in the midst of these tough times."
Springburn Academy head teacher, Linda Hamilton, said: “We are absolutely delighted.
“He has worked very, very hard and he deserves the excellent results that he has got.”
Nearly 81,000 people have signed a petition calling on the Home Office not to deport Somer and his brother, Areeb, 13, from Scotland.
They fear they will be killed by Islamic extremists if they are forced to return to Pakistan.
Somer and Areeb have lived in Glasgow with their parents, Maqsood and Parveen since their family fled the Muslim country in 2012 after their father was subjected to death threats due to his Christian faith.

Presume "parish" is a play on the word "perish".

Mr Bogle said he is excited to be hosting the event on the charity’s barge.
“When I was a parish minister in Bo’ness I was privileged to participate in the creation of Vine Trust, Sanctuary First and the Bogle Band as part of our congregation’s ministry and I am delighted they continue to evolve and to support each other.
“I hope people from all walks of life will come along to enjoy a wonderful evening of stories and songs while also learning something about the Vine Trust and Sanctuary First.”

"Websites and social media are a very effective way to share news about the diverse role the Church of Scotland plays in our communities. But often those at a congregational level tasked with these duties are working in a voluntary capacity.
“We are keen to help them to maximise how they use their websites and social media to raise awareness of their church activities and encourage engagement at a local level.”

The living stones who are Christians living in Palestine since the the first Pentecost are on the verge of extinction for the first time since the birth of Christ.

We are the victims of the corrupt interpretation of the bible by millions of Christians worldwide which simply states that the existence of the State of Israel is the sign for the second coming of Christ and we must maintain that state and support it to ensure Christ's return even though that translates into supporting a state that has uprooted the indigenous citizens of Palestine including Christians and for over 65 years continues to practice genocide, apartheid, torture, indefinite detention, theft of land, theft of water, assassinations, humiliation, hatred, discrimination, restriction of movement and travel, and the list goes on.

How on earth can a Christian ever support such unchristian and ungodly behavior? We must focus on the life and message of Christ and not on the end of times.

By trying to arrange for the second coming of Christ we are simply taking on the role of God and that is totally and unequivocally unacceptable.

No occupation in the history of Palestine has harmed the Christian presence in the land of Christ's birth as has the Israeli occupation. Please pray for peace and justice in Palestine because Christ has repeatedly instructed us to stand against injustice and support the oppressed, not the other way around.

The first covenant was between man and God and so that was surely something to break, God always did His part and we always broke the covenant but now the new covenant is between God and Jesus Christ, it is a promise and covenant that man cannot break or even be a part of we simply are to cling to that covenant and to Christ who has made it with God in our behalf to redeem us from the curse and penalty of sin

The Church of Scotland is my local congregation. When we moved from London lived in a farm between three parishes. I have worshipped in a Church of Scotland church for 12 years, and feel at home in a church run for Scotland. Now Clerk to the Board as well, loads to learn but happy to serve the best I can.

User

The Church of Scotland is a sister church to my own denomination, the Presbyterian Church(USA). It makes me happy to know that there is a church in Scotland that takes seriously Jesus' call to seek paths of justice and peace, to be stewards of the earth, and to share God's love with all who cross our paths! Thanks be to God, for the Kirk!

Open, inclusive and welcoming to all. We are all equal within the Church of Scotland, regardless of gender, race, sexuality, age sexuality etc.

User

It does some amazing work, especially among the poor and disadvantaged inspired by the example and imperative of the teaching of its King and Head, The Lord Jesus Christ.

As a Palestinian I am concerned about the occupation of my homeland, the settlements, the apartheid wall and all the other forms of injustices but as a Christian, I am more concerned over the health of the Church. A Church that is not ready or willing to hear the voice of the oppressed and stand with justice is out of sync with the will of her Head and Maker.

Christian Zionism is a contradiction in terms…Zionism deviates from the heart of the New Testament…Christian Zionism is adding fuel to the tensions between Muslims, Christians and Jews…If the Christian Zionists’ agenda is realized, it will mean the death of Palestinian Christianity in the Holy Land…

Zionism is militarizing the church… Christian Zionists overwhelmingly supported the war in Iraq and continue to support oppressive Israeli measures in the West Bank…

The ‘blind spot’ of Christian Zionists is the fact that the Palestinian people, every day and in every aspect of their lives are living under an oppressive military occupation…

Unlike the prophets of the Old Testament Christian Zionists have no prophetic words of reprimand for the State of Israel.

The Church of Scotland is a blanket which comforts us when we are small, or ill or growing old. It perhaps needs a little help to be the "go-to" for those in the middle.

User

I love the Church of Scotland BUT everything they have to happens soooo slowly especially at Presbytery level.

My church has been waiting for a special review since March

Along with all the other 3 COS churches in Larkhall our Connecting with Dalserf has been cancelled in March and this review was supposed to start then all we are getting is that it has been difficult to get the review group together but

It should have happened now there should be no more

Excuses Dalserf and Trinity are vacant for 2/3 years and 1 year respectively.

Please can something be done to improve this situation.

Or church stands at a cross road s, and the out come may even change people's lives forever. But we must remember what Jesus said that we should love one another this is the great commandment. Our church the High Church in Stornoway has travelled a difficult road in the last few months but last Sunday on remembrance day it was very full right to the front pews. Our national church has much to be thankful for, remember God has a plan for us all !!!!

User

I am happy for following what the church of Scotland is doing. I am true Christian and I feel protected if I hear the words of God.

User

Why is the ‘church’ trying to go against the Word of God?
