absolutely gorgeous. definitely recommend. we used our 5pm voucher. fantastic food and staff as always.
Was here on fri 8th Dec for a Christmas catch up with friends. Had a lovely 3 course meal - lots of drink and lots of chat. We were very well looked after by the staff and had a great night. Would thoroughly recommend the city merchant and will definitely be back soon ¤śĆ
Visited here with friends from the States. They tried haggis for the first time. It was amazing! I also tried there haggis and even by a scotswomans standards it was fantastic! Our server was so helpful when picking dishes and explained options when we asked. The lunch menu is more than worth the money! I had dish of the day mackerel which I wouldn't normally eat, I can not fault it! Will highly recommend this place and the staff.
Very good at dealing with dietary requirements. They were on it from start to finish. A beautiful 2 course lunch deal was well worth the ┬Ż12.95. I strongly recommend the haggis stuffed lamb belly with aubergine pur├®e. The flavours were delicious. My only slight gripe, but which didn't mark them down in any way in terms of stars, is that we had to ask what the soup/main/mussles of the day were as these were not announced on arrival or displayed on their boards. A lovely restaurant which we will definitely return to.
The seafood platter was excellent, Cullen skink for starters to get me in the seafood theme.
Staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful. Will defenitely go back again, this is the second time we had been and even got the same table. Wasn't very busy but it was early afternoon.
I had a lovely meal with my son and his wife on Saturday and the revise was brilliant
Had the seafood platter for 2 through itison with a glass of wine each. Food really tasty. Staff nice. Would definitely recommend.
Had pre theatre menu on Friday night - good food, great service - friendly and helpful, and good value for money.
Had a table booked for 7pm on a Monday night using a itison voucher for two seafood platters and two glasses of wine we also ordered a bottle of wine and mussels and oysters for starters me and my partner were blown away with the taste and flavour the mussels were the best we have tasted and we have eaten alot off seafood including the mussel inn and Loch fyne the platters were delious also but what also made it a perfect night was the waitress that served us she was amazing chatty and knew her stuff we never got her name but we where there on Monday the 22nd Jan 2018 we will definitely be back instead off the mussel inn and loch fyne or any other seafood restaurant for us this is the best place to go to full stop
Excellent food friendly staff. I would highly recommend a visit to here.
Being is Scotland for my first time, I had to have some haggis. City Merchant was the right place! The haggis was a nice and crunchy on the outside, and creamy and spicy on the inside. It was so delicious. I also had the venison, which was tender and luscious. I can't wait to visit again. The staff was so incredibly friendly and welcoming.
We had a table booked for Saturday first a family reunion, and although some members were late in arriving the staff were very patient. Good food, lovely wine and very good staff. Everyone had a good time and would book again.
Very nice welcoming staff and surroundings very pleasant. Lovely menu. Food tasty.
Lovely lunch. Choose off the 2-couse lunchtime menu, which is great value at ┬Ż12.50. We decided to finish by sharing the cheese board from the ├Ā la carte. It arrived without explanation as to what cheeses we had. I would have asked but my birthday guest did not want me to 'make a fuss ' We were looked after by two female table staff. Younger woman friendly and cheerful but the other had a glum look throughout, even though I made great effort to be friendly and smiley with her - thought it would rub off but it didn't. Dishes good although portons slightly small but probably reflected by the price. Still, adequate to fill us up for the rest of the day enjoying the sights of Glasgow
Enjoyed the food immensely on the 5pm Gourmet Dinner menu but IŌĆÖd say the wine wasnŌĆÖt that great.
Friendly staff. We where upstairs it was very warm and the air con was blowing directly into us which became slightly uncomfortable although the staff did offer to move us. The food was good but nothing more than that. Service was good but the cheeseboard lacked imagination was straight out of the fridge and not served at room temperature as it should. There are plenty of Scottish artisan suppliers only a phone call away.
Disappointed tonight. 40 min wait for soup for it to be average. A further 40 for main - venison hotpot which was bland & watery. After poor service no complimentary dessert or drink offered. Wouldn't return in a hurry after enjoying it previously!
Very nice restaurant in Merchant City. The owner is always there and is very sympathetic, always keen to make your time pleasant along with the waiters and waitresses. My friend and I went there yesterday and ordered the food from the lunch menu. The food was ok, but we had better choices before. Our selection of wine was great, though! My haddock bon bon with salad as well as my cod fish were tasteless (dish of the day) and my friend's soup was a bit salted! Nothing that compromised the reputation of the restaurant, which serves excellent sea food, the main specialty of the house. We will certainly come back.
Had an early dinner here on Saturday & we were really disappointed at the unprompt service!.
After being shown to our table, I had to ask for a wine order which came nearly 20mins later & our food 40mins after ordering!. Obviously the restaurant was short staffed & they appeared very stressed!. The staff were very polite & as helpful as possible but the long waits & having t complain turned a real treat into an unenjoyable experience!.
I had fillet steak & langoustines which was cooked to perfection but the others weren't so lucky with tough overcooked chicken & "look warm" veg.
Was probably an off day but I'll never return & donot recommend for these reasons!.
Very dissatisfying!!!
