Hairbnb Home Boarding V Boarding Kennels
This is the reason I developed Hairbnb
Not surprisingly, most dogs don't seem particularly excited when it comes time to be put in a kennel. Who would be? But according to a new study, keeping our canine friends locked up doesn't just make them uncomfortable -- it may be literally driving them crazy.
... Researchers from a University Institute recently examined videotapes of 30 police-trained German shepherds as they spent time in their kennels after work. What they found was that the animals showed tell-tale signs of extreme stress and even temporary mental illness.
Hamish Denham, the study's lead author, says that even the highly disciplined police dogs appeared to lose it when kept confined, exhibiting manic behaviours associated with failing mental health. The dogs were recorded repetitively jumping and bouncing off walls, pacing back and forth, spinning, and walking in circles around the perimeter of their pens.
The study notes that "some dogs may find isolation from humans particularly aversive, hence affecting their reactions to being left in a kennel" Researchers provide no definitive explanation of this behaviour, but it seems rather intuitive. Extensive studies on the effects of solitary confinement of humans has shown similar symptoms of mental disorders -- with many considering the punishment to be a form of psychological torture.
While this study focuses on dogs that are properly stimulated throughout the day, the effects of isolation for the thousands of dogs kept in a rescue centre and boarding kennels is likely to be much more profound. A paper released describes a mental illness, known as "kennel crazy" or "kennelitis" in canines left too long in confinement:
"Symptoms of this stress-induced canine compulsive behaviour disorder can include spinning and jumping in the kennel, chewing incessantly, and jumping and pulling excessively if on a lead... Other more depression-like symptoms may include self-mutilation, lack of appetite and lethargy."
Sadly though, many kennels don't have the time or resources to provide dogs with much time, if any at all, outside of their kennels -- leading to emotional suffering.
Hairbnb Carers provide your dog with the individual love, care, attention and mental stimulation they NEED whilst they can not be with you on holiday.
Please see our Website for more information and prices. If you need 5* care for your dog, contact us today to discuss your dog's requirements.

One & a half year old, Hugo is an ā€˜entireā€™ male Chinese Shar Pei and lives in West Lothian.
He has been a reactive dog since he was around 8 months old, and his owners Danielle & Scott were 1st to admit that they have been doing what I find many clients do. And that is to try to manage, best they can, but without being sure about how to go about it in the correct way.
We can ā€˜Google itā€™... read a book or two about dogs....we can ask a dog owning friend what they would do...an...d we may even listen to advice, angrily dispensed by other upset dog owners, as a result of your dogā€™s bad manners / anti-social behaviour!
Very quickly, you find yourself...
1. Crossing the road to avoid the oncoming man & dog.
2.Take your dog out when nobody else (or their dog!) is about.
3. Stop walking your dog because itā€™s too much stress.
4. Only let it out in the garden
5. Etc etc...
If this sounds familiar, please get in touch with me, or a professional of your choice as quickly as possible. If not, the problem will become worse, very quickly!
Iā€™m delighted to say that Danielle & James sought the help they needed and I was able to show them that Hugo was not as bad they thought...... Yes, he has lost some basic social skills, but I have given them the understanding, knowledge & skills to help Hugo learn to relax.
First, I stopped him from pulling like a train on his lead. This is not a relaxed state of mind, & not how dogs should be introduced to each other!
I then showed them how to interact with Hugo, so that there were rules in the game THEY were initiating.
Many changes were made within the home. Boundaries drawn, & how they were communicating was totally changed.
Theyā€™re now well on the road to a calmer & chilled Hugo!
Well done all involved today!
If you need any help, please contact me through my website here. Best wishes Allan https://www.hairbnb.co.uk/1-2-1-dog-train ing/

2 year old Cola is a Patterdale X Lakeland Terrier, and she is booked on her Hairbnb Holiday with is at the end of this month.
Her owners had been slightly concerned about Colaā€™s dog to dog manners & asked for my assessment & help in reading & handling her.
We arranged a 1-2-1 session together and having worked with Cola and the family, I was able to report that Cola was not reactive, but more clumsy in her approach to other dogs.... I made many changes to Colaā€™s day to day routines and gave Susan skills & techniques to maintain & improve Colaā€™s social skills.
We look forward to looking after her very soon!

18 month old, Inca from Peebles found herself in a bit of a pickle last winter, when she ran off during a walk and was out in the snow for 10 days as a result.
Her owners, quite understandably were reluctant to let her off the lead when they were reunited, but this can cause a dog problems when meeting other dogs socially.
ā€˜On leadā€™ dog to dog introductions can put them under pressure and if they loose their social skills, can then become nervous, or ā€˜reactiveā€™ as a result.
... Owners can then loose their confidence and then do everything possible to avoid meeting other dogs when out on a walk. We are then on a negative roundabout of ā€˜managingā€™ the situation, rather than repairing it.
Amy & James asked for my help in regaining their confidence with Inca, who they thought was beginning to loose her social skills.
I employed my own dog, Ottoā€™s assistance in assessing Incaā€™s behaviour and was delighted to see that she was not as mannerless as they had thought!
I then showed Amy & James how to handle her, how to read her and demonstrated that with calm, confident handling, Inca could very much be trusted off lead again.
I am delighted to say that they are all now back on track, and the work I gave them to do is very much paying dividends!
If you need help, please contact me through my website below to read what I do, and why.
Very best wishes, Allan https://www.hairbnb.co.uk/1-2-1-dog-train ing/

Itā€™s nice to have wee Otto back for his second Hairbnb holiday!
Being able to stay with our Carer, Val a second time, allowed him the familiarity and therefore relaxation as soon as he walked through her door. The ā€™good timeā€™ memories from his 1st holiday that he stored showed instantly when he remembered where he was. Which is a pleasure for US too!
... We will always, (wherever possible) provide the same Hairbnb Carer to look after your dog when you need our Home Boarding Services.
This then becomes your dogā€™s familiar, comfortable second home, with a friend they remember. #StressFreeDog
By matching your dog to the correct Carer consistently, they get to know each other better every holiday. #WinWin

New client, 10 month old 'lemon' Cocker Spaniel, Cooper from Innerleithen was a delight to meet yesterday.
I have owned and worked Cockers for many years and Cooper is typically every bit a high energy, full of mischief and 100 PH young dog!
He will need a lot of physical exercise, but more importantly for him, he NEEDS mental stimulation, or he will become bored very quickly and therefore get up to nonesense!
... See you gain soon, Cooper!

Meet 8 year old, Molly from Edinburgh. Kind hearted Emma & Ross recued her recently and were concerned by some of her behaviours towards other dogs when out on her walks.
By all accounts, it seemed like wee Molly had not had much of a life before she met Emma & Ross, but after a couple of hours working with her, I managed to gain her trust and take charge of her immediate environment, so that Molly no longer felt the need to protect herself. Emma & Ross now have the skills t...o take her our on walks without her 'kicking off' at every passing dog, and therefore allowing Molly to relax.
Well done Molly!......... And of course to Emma & Ross for taking her on and asking for help with Molly's stress levels.

You soon realise that your dogā€™s misgivings are in fact yours; the challenge is to correct these. Allan works with you laying foundations that establish your role as the alpha dog. When followed these techniques deliver an immediate difference in the relationship that you will have with your pet. One session is likely enough to educate you in how to reinforce positive behaviours.

Allan is very easy to comunicate with, reliable and friendly.

I have waited a week with writing this review as I wanted to see what the results are first and didn't want to rush in to write one.

I can now say that the results after only one session are fantastic and I'm determine to continue with the program.

I'm glad I chose Allan and I would recommend him to any dog owner with lost hope looking for an advice and help

User

We needed help with our very friendly over excited 9 month old Staffie Inca. Allan was excellent. Really knowledgeable and has given us lots to work on. For all we know weā€™ve got a long way to go we are prepared for the challenge and will stay in touch with Allan to tell him how we are doing.

User

We met Allan on Saturday as we needed help with our 1 year old GSP, Max, who is proving to be a bit of a handful for us as first-time dog owners. Immediately, Allan had a calming and reassuring effect on both us and Max. Allan very quickly assessed where our problems stemmed from and he has given us fantastic advice on how to redress the balance in the house so that Max knows who is in charge! We have begun to put Allan's advice into action and we are already seeing a positive change in Max's behaviour. No doubt we will have challenges ahead, but Allan has given us the confidence and understanding which will enable us to train Max to be a well-behaved part of our family. We cannot recommend Allan highly enough. Many thanks for all your help and we are looking forward to seeing you and Otto again in the near future.

User

We had a session with Allan last week and the change in Ziggy's behaviour has been amazing, Allan laid out the rules and gave us really good information on how to treat Ziggy and make him understand what we wanted him to do. Very happy we could have this session and looking forward to the dog boarding option! Definitely recommend!!

User

Our dog Dancer was terrified of going outdoors to the point where she hid away at the mere mention of going out, to be honest I was skeptical that a dog trainer could help but after two sessions with Alan and sticking to his teachings her fear's have gone and a new found confidence means she can't wait to go out for walks.

Great guy, superb advice and you'll be amazed at the results.

I needed help with our 3 year old labrador as he had started running off a lot and his recall was poor.

Allan was able to teach me some excercises to practice and had the dog doing things I didn't think he was remotely capable of in what felt like a matter of minutes!! It was amazing to see just how focused the dog could be and made me more confident that he had it in him to be able to do so much better.

What Allan has taught me has made me understand the dogs body language and helped me gain confidence when out with him resulting in much more relaxed, enjoyable walks together.

I would definetely highly recommend Allan to any dog owner looking for help or advice.

Thanks again Allan and Otto!

I had Allan out on Thursday for my 20 month old Golden Labrador Brax, who is a nervous dog with a nervous owner, Brax was walking with Allan no pulling on lead, no tension, very well behaved, responded to him in every way, I couldn't believe the difference in Brax in such a short space of time, still got more work to do with Allan but hopefully Brax will be more confident and stop chewing on things.

I found Allan through the Internet, and read the reviews on Facebook, and decided to ask for his help with my re homed, staffie, Angel, as she seemed to be progressively anxious around other dogs and humans, Allan talked me through an action plan, which I am very pleased to say is working like a dream, everyday is a lesson for me now, but I've become more understanding of Angels needs, through Allans advice. We are still learning, it's early days with good ones and bad ones but overall I feel having Allans expert advice has helped me so much. Many thanks Allan.

User

I contacted Allan last week and he responded very quickly. He came out yesterday to meet Paisley our Dobermann pup. We didn't have any major issues regarding Paisley but we did change a few things that Allan put in place for us to follow which will benefit in the near future with Paisley.

Allan is a lovely friendly guy. We all now feel confident with Paisley and can honestly see a huge difference with Paisley already. Amazing.

I know I can contact Allan anytime if we have a concerns regarding Paisley.

Thanks again Allan, you're a superstar. ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½

I can't thank Allan enough for helping me last night with Ruby. She is a very nervous dog around strangers and when people come into my house she comes across as being aggressive, which was so far from the truth. She is very wary of strangers but Allan showed me how to deal with her and how my actions were actually triggering this behaviour in her. Not only did Allan show us that ruby is just scared, he showed us how to act round her with voice tones and body movements. When i walked Ruby my arms got ripped out their sockets trying to control her. With simple instructions and movements this instantly changed. This morning was the first morning i actually enjoyed walking her with no stress or ripped shoulder joints!!! I am very much looking forward to Allan coming back out to deal with Ruby around other dogs. In just less than 2 hours i have a much more relaxed doggy! Gladly recommended him to friends already.

User

Have just spent a few hours with Allan and my dog reactive terrier. He is very good at breaking down the problem and explaining reasons why and most importantly how I can change the dogs behaviour by changing my behaviour and having a plan moving forward. Very pleased and canā€™t recommend highly enough.

User

Had an amazing session with Allan and our dogs ļæ½. We learnt lots from Allan and as a result we have 2 happier dogs . ļæ½

Had Allan out to see my 3 year old Lhasa, he can be very uptight and agressive when people enter my garden/house, Allan helped us understand why he is like this and why he does all the things that he does. Really excited to see whats next and see the change in my wee Mog (Charlie)! Thanks so much for everything Allan, changing the way we look at being dog owners. Thanks so much from me and wee Mog! Xx

Few months on and Allan still keeps in touch, Charlie has changed and is better behaved. Made a big difference to all our lifes. Thanks Allan x

User

Can't thank Allan enough got his help with our boy Kevin, who came to us 13 weeks ago, very nervous, scared and not at all that responsive. His main problem was he wouldn't cross the door without being carried. After an hour spent with Allan, showing us how to be assertive and show Kevin there was nothing to be scared of, he's now happily stepping out door and looks to us for guidance. Can't wait for next session.

User

Amazing! Roxy would normally jump up at people coming in the house, pull at their clothes etc. As soon as Allan came in the house and told her no she was on the floor showing her belly doing absolutely everything she was told. Thank you so much Allan for showing us how much we were doing wrong and how roxy was ruling the house ļæ½ today she's been so much better, waiting to come through doors, no jumping on sofas, less pulling on the lead. Still a way to go to make her realise we are in charge but we will get there :-) Roxy was testing us so much it was causing a lot of stress and also worry if she was happy too but having the reassurance that she is a good dog and we were the problem makes it a lot easier to address. We saw the dog that she can be. She still doesn't listen to us quite as well as she did to Allan but hopefully we will get there!! Would without hesitation recommend to any one.

User

Allan was wonderful. I learned so much and my 2 crossbreed puppies responded amazingly to him. I've already seen a big change in their attitude and behaviour since Allan educated me on how to properly train your dog. He really took the time to get to know my situation and my dogs. I'd recommend him to anyone!

User

Allan has helped us on two occasions with our Basset Hound. The first time was a couple of days after we got her as an 8 week old pup . We had never had a dog before and we needed some advice and guidance on what we should be doing. We followed Allan's advice and all went great. As our pup got older we started to struggle with on lead walking. She pulled so much on walks it was getting quite stressful for all involved. Allan to the rescue once again! After an afternoon with Allan and Otto we started to understand what we were doing wrong and most importantly, what we should actually be doing. We now have a much happier pup who is walking so much better on lead and Allan has given us the confidence to even have her off lead now, which we were too nervous to do previously. I can't thank Allan enough. He has helped us so much and now we can enjoy our pup much more and she can have a happy full life. I can't recommend Allan highly enough. Many thanks from us, and especially from Morte.

User

Allan has changed our whole perception of dogs and the ways in which they should be treated in order for them to live the most happy lives that they can. My puppies have came on leaps and bounds after one day! I thoroughly advise anyone who would like to better their relationship with their dogs or want to better their dogs life to give allan a call. I cant sing his praises high enough absolutely fantastic! !! On behalf of Laicey, Ellie and myself we would like to thank you very much for your help on changing our lives together :D x

Allan came to meet my mums Cockapoo, Daisy yesterday, although she is a fabulous wee dog...WE were in need of some fine tuning to help her be even better. Having spent a couple of hours with Allan both my mum and I have learnt an awful lot.

Daisy used to bark at anything and everything....including the TV, she also had issues about who was actually in charge. With a few simple techniques learnt in our home we have had a lovely peaceful day in the garden.

Daisy, also would pull on the lead, therefore making it difficult for my mum to walk her, again, after a short period of time with simple and effective techniques Daisy was walking beside Mum and actually listening to her.

We feel so much more connected to Daisy, quite simply by being able to understand her and by making sure she knows where she comes in the pecking order.....

Allan is not just any old dog trainer....he trains the humans...after all there is no such thing as a bad dog....just untrained humans.

Thank you so much Allan ļæ½
