About Clarabella Christie

I am a textile designer /maker with a love of interiors. I specialise in up-cycling and host workshops. I live and work in Dunfermline Fife.

Clarabella Christie Description

Clarabella Christie is textile /interior design business which I run from The Fire Station Creative in Dunfermline's town centre.

My collections of prints have been inspired by the architecture of my hometown. I hand make everything from my studio. I sell my products the length and breadth of Scotland.

As well as sewing up a storm in my studio every week I also run a sewing school right here at the Fire Station Creative. I run three weekly classes that run for an eight week term. I welcome absolute beginners as well as seasoned stitchers. Each term we tackle a different skill with a list of fabulous projects to choose from. You can see what classes are on offer on my events page.

If you would like to learn to sew please get in touch, I teach a max of six people in each class, so lots of one to one. My studio is a bright and friendly, welcoming environment where I provide machinery and some materials. The eclectic project list changes each term and each project is step-by-step and designed to hone your stitching skills.

Olga getting creative with my print candy on a shoot in the studio this week. It’s been a scarfathon of late, many orders of these beauts are making their way across the country. I do love making these jewel like scarves I never get tired of the colour combinations. I have actually got around to stocking my store with these.. more to follow. Why don’t you have a nosey link in bio. I make these in small batches and I have 12 designs. . . . #scarvesforall.... #studiojapes. #studioshoot. #handmadescarves. #textiledesigner. #surfacepattern. #accessories. #makeanentrance. #madeinfife. #scottishtextiles. @clarabella_christie @olgakrasanova @fire_station_creative

Some more details from the home I worked on earlier in the year. This wonderful cabinet in the drawing room was bought at auction and once held school trophies. We decided to house the many beautiful family heirlooms and objects with fond memories here. From the ornate family crystal and silver to beautiful delicate Chinese tea sets. A very traditional collection (my parents too house their family crystal and china in a cabinet) but with a gorgeous oriental theme. I realise...d the importance of tradition in this home and I spent time curating these into interesting groups while learning the many stories of where they came from. The blue background framed them beautifully, It was such a huge job to unpack and clean and display but worth it. This cabinet runs the length of the room..truly a treasure trove. pictured by @stmc . . .

More pictures for you to feast your eyes on of a recent interior project I worked on earlier in the year . My clients had recently inherited many beautiful objects from the orient which I curated in their new hallway. The old photos of relatives I found in the attic and reframed in period frames, beautiful Chinese silks reimagined as pictures. The wonderful -to die for floor -discovered under old rugs, pristine and intact it became the new palette of colours for the room. They... had also inherited many pictures so we decided on a Salon theme for the room. . . . #crane. #williammorris. #handmadeshades. #orientalinspired. #interiorproject. #newproject. #hallwayinspo. #gallery. #salon. #interiorstyling. #thestrawberrythief. #gallerywalldecor. #makeanentrance . #interiordesigner. #scottishinteriors. #morris&co @ Dunfermline, Fife

Here is a sneak peak of a huge project I have been working on earlier in the year. A beautiful family abode in my hometown. Getting to let loose on someone’s home is my favourite and best ! Not a Clarabella print in sight but a host of clever reused and reimagined interior decoration with a strong oriental theme( the owner was raised in Hong Kong). This project was all about curating beautiful objects and memories. This is the entrance...of course only Mr Morris will do . . . . #newproject#interiordesigner #interiorstyling#thestrawberrythief #williammorris William Morris & Co #makeanentrance#curateddesign#designforal l#designboom#interiorinspiration#entranc edecor#entrancehall Clarabella Christie @ Dunfermline, Fife

Love Claire's classes. It's so good to learn something new as I had not sewn since school. They're really fun, there's always tea and new friends to make. Thanks Claire!

User

I went to one of Claires classes as a complete beginner and over the 9 weeks i made a wee bird, a bag, a draft excluder and a table runner. I'd never have dreamed that to be possible! It's given me so much confidence in myself that I can learn a new skill. Claire is great and so helpful! Would give her 10 stars if i could!

User

I never thought I'd go from pieces of material to a Christmas cushion in a few hours, but thanks to Clare I have. If you'd like to learn to sew I'd recommend one of her courses☺

I have just had some cushions made and a lamp refurbished. The lamp had been a bit forlorn and I was thinking of donating it to a charity shop. But it had so much sentimental value. So I took it to Claire and she worked her magic. Thank you so much Claire- I am delighted

Claire provided and afternoon of prosecco and stitching for my hen party. It was a brilliant ways to start the day. The Fire Station Creative cafe provided delicious sharing platters for the guests to start us off and Claire was the hostess with the mostess.

The activity was well designed and provided complete newbies with something they could achieve while still giving more experienced stitchers a chance to show off their skills. Everyone went home with a wonderful completed embroidery hoop picture. Claire is a very talented lady and a very experienced tutor who knows how to put people at their ease.

Thank you so much for making it such a special experince!

Claire organised a wonderful craft party for my daughter's 6th Birthday at her studio in the Fire Station. She tailored it to Katie's favourite things, Ponies! She pitched it just right for the age group combining different crafting techniques and even let them have a turn on the sewing machine! All the kids had a fab time and were totally engaged with the activity. They also created some amazing pony puppets to take home! The fire station staff were also great at organising the birthday tea afterwards. The birthday girl was very happy and I'd recommend a Clarabella Craft Party to anyone else with a craft loving munchkin. Thank you Clarabella Christie! And the lovely Gracie too! ❤

User

Claire is very talented and a very patient teacher of new skills. My mum and I have now completed beautiful cushions and stunning lampshades using Claire’s own fabrics. If we lived closer we would sign up for a block of lessons. Each time I leave Claire my “crafting enthusiasm” has returned and I’m encouraged to practice new skills. A very big thank you from me and my mum x

User

Claire is fantastic. She has taught me how to sew! I have actually made something without her!! Her products are also fantastic and I have a few around my house always looking for new places to put her stuff. Totally recommend her classes and any of her own made items.
