Clocktower House Description

Clocktower House is a spacious and comfortable home (sleeps 8). The listed building has been upgraded to a high standard (4 stars by Visit Scotland). It is located in a pretty and quiet street with no through traffic. The village has shops, café and several pubs.

There are several rooms to congregate including a big eat-in kitchen, a lounge with open fire and comfortable seating and a small conservatory with a nice view of the south west facing garden. A separate en-suite bedroom is also found on the ground floor.
On the first floor there are 3 more bedrooms including 1 en-suite with a king size bed, 1 double, 1 twin and a main bathroom with separate shower and bathtub.

The house, well equipped with TV, internet and small library has personal touches as owners (who live abroad) use it when visiting.
Galloway Forest Park, one of the few 'Dark skies parks' is outside your doorstep and several south facing beaches are nearby. A 9 hole golf course with stunning views is within walking distance. Biking, walking and horse-back riding are available with marked trails in Galloway Forest Park. Castles, exotic gardens and picturesque villages are a short drive away as well as an abundance of golf courses.

Castle Douglas, ‘the food town’ (20 minutes drive), has many specialty grocery stores and nice cafes. Of other things / sights there is the artist village of nearby Kirkcudbright with galleries and Stewartry Museum. The Cocoabean chocolate company in Twynholm is a hit with children as well as the Cream o’Galloway ice cream factory. The seaside village of Port Logan, Mull of Galloway and Logan botanical gardens are spectacular destinations on a beautiful day. Another outing with amazing views is a walk around Glen Trool in Galloway Forest.

Gatehouse, ‘the wee toon’, is easy to reach and has a famously mild climate with more hours of sunshine than other parts of Scotland. It is about 2 hours by road from Glasgow or Prestwick Airports and 3 hours from Edinburgh. Train from London (Euston station) takes about 4. 5 hours to Dumfries where a car can be rented from Glenrental at the train station (40 minutes drive to Gatehouse). The bus to Belfast via Stranraer leaves from London Victoria station twice a day and will stop (on request) about 100 yards from Clocktower House, providing an easy and inexpensive way to travel.

Clocktower House is suitable for groups and multi generation family gatherings. The house provides an outstanding base for a remarkable and active holiday for the whole family! Well behaved dogs are welcome too!
