Net Neutrality how does is affect you
As the #fcc (Federal Communications Commission) in the #USA has voted to repeal the 2015 net neutrality order what does it mean for internet users in the U.S.A and here in the #uk.
What is net neutrality?
... At its most basic level its the ability for isps' to demand that corporations and service providers such as Facebook, Twitter, Fox, CNN, Sky etc pay to have their traffic prioritised, in effect throttling competitors services or at worst blocking them from appearing in your search traffic. As a #consumer they could also provide tiered #internet access, you wish to stream movies, pay more, want faster access to facebook, pay more, want to #vpn, use #voip, large data transfers... this is all hypothetical but you understand the possible implications of the repeal. However unlikely the above consumer scenarios it could open to abuse by #ISP's unless properly regulated.
The removal of Net Neurtality is a dangerous step as it could result in a decrease in #competition, #innovation, #invention and #entrepreneurship. Startups and small businesses would be unable to compete with existing large scale operations as they would be drowned out.
Would Mark Zuckerberg's #Facebook have managed to gain traction to grow from a dorm room to the current massive global enterprise against the then most popular social media giant #Myspace had net neutrality not existed. Its beggars belief that the FCC thinks this will lead to innovation as the smaller guys simply can't compete with the budget of their larger competition. #Youtube, #Dailymotion #Vimeo, Twitch would be unknowns if Net Neutrality hadn't existed prior to today's decision.
For now in the USA all traffic is treated the same no priority, no throttling, no site blocking unless it is deemed to be illegal (at least that is until April).
So what does this mean for the UK?
For now nothing. In the uk we are fortunate to have competition in the isp market across the whole of the UK. We are protected by EU rules on internet traffic however What does remain to be seen is whether a post #Brexit UK would choose to adopt the same internet model as the USA.

brilliant service received by ultrasound direct scotland, old laptop data restored on to new laptop, going above and beyond to travel to livingston out of hours to drop off laptop

Very quick turnaround and my laptop is now working at light-speed whereas before it was very sluggish. Would recommend.
