We hired a Croix de Fer adventure/gravel bike from Comrie Croft and took off on a 7 day tour de central Highlands.

Day 1: Comrie-Balquhidder. Up Glen Artney over the track to Callander - good quality track - great descent to Callander - trundle up track along Loch Lubnaig to Balquhidder.

Day 2: Balquhidder-Loch Lyon. Fabulous cycle track over Glen Ogle to Killin, then along South Loch Tay road to Fearnan. Pedalled the entire length of Glen Lyon in the sunshine. Track on south side Glen Lyon is very ridable on loaded adventure bikes. Bivvy spot in Gleann Achadh-innis Chailein glen, sublime.

Day 3 Gleann Achadh-innis Chailein - Rannoch Station: West Highland Way from Loch Tulla over Black Mount is pretty brutally bumpy on a loaded adventure bike. Track finding talents failed me in afternoon - Glen Coe to Loch Laidon track looks like 2 km footpath section in middle - it's about a 6 km bog trot with dubious 'path'. Wouldn't recommend.

Day 4 Rannoch Station - Kingussie: Path into Loch Ossian is marked as footpath but is glorious trail with expansive views to Glen Coe. Out Strath Ossian to the North the best unpaved track surface ever! Up Loch Laggan on road to Kingussie - very pretty.

Day 5 Kingussie to Aviemore via Gaick pass. To Dalnacardoch in Glen Garry on cycle track south alongside A9 - bit variable surface quality but fine for adventure bike and probably road bike. Track north from Dalnachardoch through Gaick pass - magnificent! Excellent adventure bike track, except about 2km along Loch an Dun which is a walk unless confident single-track mountain biker. Descent into Glen Tromie incredible.

Day 6: Aviemore to Aberfeldy. A9 to Dalnachardoch again - brutal headwind this time. Then over climbs and beautiful quiet roads through Trinafour, Tummel Bridge, Coshieville to Aberfeldy.

Day 7: Aberfeldy to Comrie via Glen Almond. South Loch Tay road, up steep paved road at Ardtalnaig, then good quality track up to source of Almond river. 2 km 'argocat' trail at top of valley, but mostly rideable. Then easy cruising down remainder of sweeping glen to road at Sma' Glen and back to Comrie.

Our first Scottish bike-packing adventure. What a treat. Repeat every May.

Comrie croft supplied a bike in perfect condition, set up perfectly for this sort of trip. Not to mention generous tasty lunches from the cafe, perfectly book-ending the ride.

Cheers!

Thanks to Scott for an excellent coaching session on Sunday at Flow School. It was an awesome day and really helped improve technique. The mechanics back in the shop were great at sorting out a few little issues, 1 snapped chain and a new set of pads. We will be back!
