Cove Honey Bees Description

After researching into the Honey Bee since 2012, finally Cove Honey Bee's was set up in spring 2014 with just one Colony of bee's, over the summer I split the hive into two producing a new queen givng me two hives to work over the summer.

Over the winter we made the decision to expand this into something bigger so the task of acquiring hives over the winter for the next spring started.

2015 has rapidly expanded from the one initial hive bought in 2014 into having three Apiary's sites around the Aberdeen and Shire area giving us a wide range of different Honey over the season.

The bees are moved about depending whats in flower at the time of year, here is a little idea what sites we use over the year.

Feb-April
Laurancekirk-
All the hives overwintering at our loactions are moved to this site, this particular farm produces Daffodils so giving the bees a really good start in the year as flowering plants are limited, no Honey is taken from the bees during this period as food stores are low after winter.

May-June
All the hives are then moved to Bancory Devenick onto the Oil Seed Rape to produce set honey, due to the abundance of flowers on this crop they nectar flow is good allowing the bees to produce huge amounts of surplus Honey for harvesting.

July- Septemer
Hives are then split up into 3 Apiarys

1 Apiary at Cove
1 Apiary at Bancory Devenick
1 Apiary at Drum Castle Estate

Hives are then left to produce "Runny Honey" over this period and left to over winter at these locations until Mid February.

Currently we have Set honey and Runny Honey for sale

Cut comb will be available soon, please email you details as we have a waiting list for it.
