Christmas vouchers and Summer Howf makeover!🎄🎄 Our lovely Summer Howf is now closed for the season. Lots of great visitors have enjoyed it this year and left us some fabulous messages and reviews. This is what one of its last visitors wrote in the visitors book - "Thank you so much for our peaceful, beautiful and relaxing stay..... the surroundings are breathtaking and the animals are brilliant! You have an amazing thing going on here, we and the hundreds of people we will b...e recommending this place to, will definitely be back"..... Great message! Hate to mention Christmas but we do offer vouchers and they make a great gift.🎄Just email for info on them. We are really excited to get started on a Summer Howf refresh. We have some lovely new floor tiles to put in, new stove and cooking area and new soft furnishings. Can't wait to see it finished.

The old plumb tree produced a huge harvest this year. A lovely job this afternoon picking them. Not a bad day job at all. Will leave some in the wee shop for our current guests to help themselves to.

The Muckle Howf is a traditional Scottish stone-built steading converted into a luxury holiday cottage, it is the result of a long-term project undertaken at Craighead by Ian, Heather and family.
What makes it special is the setting combined with the very high standard achieved in the conversion of the steading, a key aim being to offer something special for visitors, a place to enjoy and relax, with access to the gardens and a personal family welcome which has been awarded ...5 stars* by the Scottish Tourist Board.

The Summer Howf offers a totally different Glamping experience – with a truly garden feel inside and out you are immersed in our country garden.
It is a delightfully renovated Summer House complete with its own electricity and is furnished to give you a feel of camping but most definitely in a garden style.
The Summer Howf is completely secluded amongst the trees at the very top of the garden alongside the duck pond with the ducks as your neighbours. Walk over the bridge to see the miniature donkeys and Highland cows. #glamping #craigheadhowf #glampingexperience #scotland #holidays #vacation #selfcatering Photos by Mike Dow Photography

Our lovely guests have been loving the weather. We were delighted to have Derek and April with us in the Muckle Howf. Derek has been a professional tractor driver since a boy and just fell in love with our wee grey Fergie! It took him back to his childhood and the first tractor he drove. The ones he drives these days in the south of England have wheels that are bigger than our entire wee tractor! #fergietractors #craigheadhowf #glamping #greyfergie

We are loving the weather and it could just not have been better for us getting some fabulous pictures taken to share....... many thanks to Mike Dow Photography we now have some great pictures of the Hobbits too. Wonderful retreat - we went on honeymoon and it was perfect!

User

What can I say? Absolutely amazing, magical, enchanting and one of the best places I have ever stayed. And I'm so glad it's in my home town of Scotland. Ian and Heather are lovely people and have made their farm and surrounding area like something from The Lord of the rings. I am in love and want to now live on a farm - can I come live with you guys?! It's charming, as are all of the animals. We stayed in the Tree Howf for 2 nights. There are 3 black sheep right below the balcony, they are very friendly and cute. The highland cows were gorgeous and mysterious. We stood watching them and the sheep running about chasing each other through the fence at dusk. We were lucky to have sunshine most of the weekend, we spent a lot of time drinking gin and prosecco outside and by the BBQ. It was amazing for us to realise we didn't miss having a tv and how different it is to have peace and quiet compared our manic Edinburgh city. The care and thought Ian and his son have put in to building the Tree howf is endearing. It has so much character and little quirks it really made it feel like home. The wood burning fire heats the room up brilliantly. The shower is brilliant. The bed is very comfy and cosy and it was wonderful to lie and watch the birds above us and listen to the sheep in the morning and at night. We went for several long walks each day. We would go out of the tree house just to walk around it and take in the fresh air and enjoy the views. We were lucky enough to listen and watch Oyster Catchers and get kisses from the cat. Thank you so much for the best weekend ever. Xx

User

What a great weekend spent in the Summer Howf, fantastic place owned by the fantastic Ian and Heather who really have thought of everything. Myself and Laura will most definitely be back. Thanks again.

User

We stayed in the wee howf for our honeymoon, wonderful to be greeted with a bottle of bubbly Ian and Heather are amazing hosts. It was absolutely gorgeous and so nice to wake up to birdsong in the morning. After the grand tour of the treehowf, we upgraded. Its just magical! Especially with the neighbouring horses and donkeys (No pun intended!) Such a unique little tranquil get away, thats not too far away either! We will definitely be back! Many many thanks, the new Mr & Mrs Birkett! x

User

We had the most amazingly relaxed time at the very comfortable Wee Howf last week, wildlife was abundant, including bats and frogs, the weather was Scottish and the donkeys love apples! We will most definitely be back! Thanks to Ian and family for creating this lovely haven hideaway!

User

We are just home from the most fabulous relaxing stay in the Tree Howf. Ian and Heather have done something so special creating this unique get away. I cannot recommend Craighead enough! From exploring the beautiful grounds and visiting the cutest Highland calves, to creating the cosiest (most romantic) little fire toasting marshmallows outside our treehouse, it was magical! What amazing memories we now have here. We will definitely be back and stay a little longer...maybe stay in the Wee Howf next time! Thanks again, you have made us fall even more in love with our beautiful country x

User

We are just back from a 2 night stay in The Wee Howf.....absolutely loved it! It was very luxurious for glamping! The Wee Howf was so cosy, the fire really does heat it up quickly, so much so we slept with the window open last night! We would highly recommend The Wee Howf to anyone wanting a few days off grid!!

Will hopefully be back to try out one of the other Howfs in the future!

User

My husband and i spent two nights at the summer howf for a mini moon. It was absolutely perfect! The people were amazing, the grounds were beautiful and the animals were lovely. Within a few hours there we were already discussing how we'd love to come back! I could not recommend this place more and can't wait to come back!!

User

My husband and I stayed in the Wee Howf at the weekend as a surprise for my 30th birthday and it was brilliant! It was great having our own space with the pond and all the wildlife around us. Heather and Ian have thought of everything! We also enjoyed a tour of the Tree Howf and would love to stay there next time!

User

My husband and I spent two nights in the newly built bagend hobbit hole for our mini-moon we had the best time and are already discussing returning in the future. Iain and Heather made us very welcome and were very helpful. The surroundings are picture perfect we enjoyed the beautiful gardens and walks around the site and our breathtaking views from our window and we loved how peaceful and quiet the site was. Nothing can explain how wonderful it was to open our door in the morning to views of hills, countryside and endless wildlife to watch. The hobbit hole was truly unique and we felt very at home there the design inside was beautifully made and felt very cosy. We loved the attention to detail inside and out and truly felt like we were in the shire. A Beautiful and unique experience that we would recommend to others as a peaceful relaxing getaway thank you for this wonderful experience we will be back in the future! Ben & Lindsey :)

User

My girlfriend and I had a truly amazing weekend. The Summer Howf is like an oasis of calm, it was lovely waking up in the morning to the sound of birdsong. I would recommend this place to anyone, and I can't wait to go back!

User

Just finishing our stay at Muckle Howf, and it’s been just perfect. Three couples and great accommodation as there are three bedrooms all en-suite. Excellent facilities throughout for self-catering plus the luxury of a hot tub and sauna. There’s a whiskey lounge .... and that’s all I’m saying! The hosts also have three glamping properties and are currently constructing Hobbit houses which they hope to present for ‘habitation’ in the spring of 2018. The properties also have access to a small shop for basics you may want, or forgot to pack e.g. fresh eggs or a toothbrush. To visit there’s Perth, Stirling and the Trossachs and Callander not far away. On your doorstep is Dunblane for food shopping, but it has a most beautiful cathedral you must visit. Thank you Ian and Heather Keir for your hospitality.

User
