The National Trust for Scotland (NTS) has seen huge surges in tourism at castles, palaces, mansion houses, heritage villages and country parks over the past 12 months.

Yesterday was my first visit at Culloden and I’m very happy afterwards. Great museum and the best was our 12.00 tourguide! Historical knowledge and sensitivity were outstanding. Thank you for this amazing experience! Greetings and always stay safe!

Hope the highland culture will rise again

User

What a fantastic informative place to visit. This is not somewhere I would have visited but the hubby wanted to and I am so glad we did. A very informative time....we enjoyed the tour, 4 screened battle room and the hands on experience of some of the weapons. Highly recommend a visit.

User

Well worth the bus trip outside Inverness. Great museum, especially being allowed to see up close actual weapons from the battle. Visited with my three children in January and will come back!

User

We visited with a 7 & a 5 year old, and there was something for everyone. The visitor centre had loads to see and do, including weapons to play with and clothes to dress up in. The quiz made sure we looked at everything. The battlefield was lovely, if you know what I mean, and the tour handset really made it. Just wrap up warm...it was cold, even in July. And I recommend you take some of your own food, just don't picnic on the battlefield! We can't wait to go back.

User

Very informative. Provided answers to questions I have had over the years while studying history. Great step back in time.

User

Truly amazing place. Very moving learning what part the Farquharson’s played in this bloody battle. Great experience for my boys to understand how the Farquharson’s before them died fighting for the jacobites. I heard my boys say they will visit together with their children one day so they also understand what it means to be a Farquharson. All vey proud Farquharson’s today. Will definitely visit again, great cafe and shop too.

User

The battlefield is a very somber, haunting place to visit. The visitor center is absolutely wonderful, and completes the story from start to finish, visually and full of amazing artifacts. The cafe is not to be missed to warm up and get grounded after the whole experience. An important piece of Scotland's history not to be missed!

User

Sad,emotive,a battle that in highlanders,s terms should never have been fought here ,or under such a poor choice of conditions. It ended a way of life. The Westminster government tried hard to stifle, our language and culture, it has survived, and the present Scottish government is determined to improve our pride and identity.

User

Really great day out! So much to learn and to see! Had a fabulous tour by James (7/4/18 @12), he was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable!

User

My friends and I have had a great time here and also learned a lot.

User

Just been here today for the first time. Great place to visit for all ages, its very interactive with touch screen scripts and a dress up photo booth. The gentleman who did the talk about medicines etc was great, he was very imformative, it was my favourite part of the centre. The battlefield itself was of course very sombre and emotional. I like that the national trust of scotland is working gradually to get the land back to how it would have once been.

User

It was a very moving experience touring the battlefield and immersing oneself in the history so eloquently explained in the display at the visitors centre. I loved how the battlefield has been returned to its original state, so beautiful with the wild flowers, swaying grass, and stone monuments; a truly peaceful memorial. lts hard to move beyond the echoes of the terrible things that happened here, but remembering and honouring the participants on both sides (for these were Scots as well as English) is an important and humane thing, the right thing to do. Thank you for the experience, and chance to walk with and remember our ancestors

User

If you are going to Inverness, then not visiting the Culloden battlefield will make your Scotland trip incomplete. It's a painful but very important chapter of Scottish history. The "cleansing" British initiated followed by the battle was the same kind which they initiated elsewhere to make people loyal to the crown as opposed to their own clans and people. Needless to say, loyalty can't be won by force nor can be retained by sword. Loyalty can only be forged by goodwill, kindness and love. If nothing else, history teaches us that.

User

Deeply personal experience. We have significant ancestry on both sides and was so sad to hear of the hatred the two had for one another. I understand their belief however that was incredibly complex given all the circumstances and Culloden visitor centre certainly demonstrates this. I loved the sensory feel of the place that allows you to spend time reflecting. Thanks Scotland for such an extensive education. I wish for peace but understand life is not that simple.

User

Absolutely fantastic place to visit, very well presented and informative.

User

I may have been there, when I was 20 years old. And I like to think, that I have. You may argue, that if so, I would have remembered. But at my age, memory fails me sometimes. However. Seeing the pictures on this site sure makes me want to go for a visit. And that is why, I rate the 4 stars.

User

Brilliant place to visit, very informative and clean. Battlefield was beautiful but moving at the same time. Only downside was the cafe, £6.60 for a 2 year old eat a sandwich! Advertised a kids box then got charged for each individual item! Couldn't make a sandwich without an item in it (allergies) No soup, cakes out for who knows how long, no prices anywhere and sandwiches were stale. The whole menu needs rethinking. Nearly £37 for a family of 6 to have a sandwich each and 3 drinks between us. Will go back to the visitors centre and battlefield but not the cafe!

User

a small bottle of water £2, in Paris only €1
